@inovator yes mate all I play is sims plus a little sprinkle of the gorgeous No Man's Sky 😉

I was jealous though of the visuals you got with the reverb 1.

those that defended the Rift-S some 12-months ago, and have continued to say that the comprises made were worth it, are faced with the realization that the Rift-S could be totally sidelined by this new Quest. The Lenovo/Oculus system becoming neither a high-end Desktop VR headset, or a cost effective PC VR solution. I had really hoped that the Rift line would not be driven down a cul-de-sac by Oculus; but when Lenovo went dark last year regarding commenting on Rift-S we knew something was up.

Every headset could be side-lined by a new headset, that's the nature of technical advancement.
Those people who defended the Rift-S 12 months ago are faced with nothing more than (in my case) 12 months enjoyment and around 2000 hours of supremely comfortable long-session VR gaming which has been better than my CV1.

If the S is the last PCVR-only headset that has an Oculus name, that doesn't necessarily mean it's been driven down a cul-de-sac, it could have just arrived at its destination and the next journey is one of hybrids.

13700K, RTX 4070 Ti, Asus ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming, Corsair H150i Capellix, 64GB Corsair Vengence DDR5, Corsair 5000D Airflow, 4TB Samsung 870 , 2TB Samsung 990 Pro x 2, DK2, CV1, Rift-S, Quest, 2, 3, Pro, Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (10.0.26100)

I've decided I'm going to keep the HP G2 regardless of what Oculus brings out later on. I might pick up an Oculus headset to if it's any good, but I feel I want to reward HP for listening and getting this upgrade to market so quickly after the first HP Reverb. This is what I wanted from a VR headset and so far it looks like HP have delivered what people asked for.

Fully agree with this, HP has earned my business at this point. Can't wait to get the G2.

I'm missing my CV1 a little bit, but no regrets about selling it, I'm excited for the arrival of my G2.

Sounds like there will be quite a queue for the headsets going by this thread alone.

Can't wait for the reviews chaps 🙂

I think the HP Reverb kind of illustrates my point - that they developed a improved version of the CV1 as the majority of the existing market wanted. While Oculus decided to abandons that plan, end its Rift2 project and revert to a compromised Rift-S platform made by a third party under instruction - that is the example of the "cul-de-sac" I referred too - and the results are a remixed response from the market - yes some users are very happy, but also some previous owners of CV1's are not and have decided to go with the HP offering - or be encouraged to wait on a mythical CV2 that seems now to have been a false dawn promise.

While the journey may change over the 12-months obviously, the ultimate destination should stay the same - and if that destination is altered its best that the community understands this than live under false promises and expectations of a CV2 some time down the road.  If the statements to be made at OC7 are what has been suggested, then a lot in the PC VR community will have questions of their own.

I completely agree and indeed I *hope* it is what happens so long as not too many compromises are made on the PC side. However that isn't what some pretty vocal folk have been saying when shouting down those who said oculus' priority is now clearly on a stand along headset and that the pure PC rift line is looking to be a very much lower priority .
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

I totally agree and I am also waiting for my HP G2.
I had CV1 for 3 years and the Rift S has been with me for a year and the truth is that it has served me well, I am not at all sorry to have bought it but the truth is that we always want more when we dedicate ourselves to racing simulators and that's my use almost 100%.
I have a lot of respect for what Oculus has done for VR and I hope that in 2021 or 2022 it will come with solutions that will make me return to the brand. Thank you Oculus.
