They promise that the consumer product will be out before the end of this year.

360 inside-out audio tracking
Wireless hand-tracking hardware

"A 1,200 by 1,080 pixel screen in front of each eye, with refresh rates of a blistering 90 frames per second."

"A gyrosensor, accelerometer, and laser position sensor combine to precisely track the rotation of your head on both axes to an accuracy of 1/10th of a degree, allowing you to look around the virtual environment naturally. Couple the headset with a pair of Steam VR base stations to track your physical location (in spaces up to 15 feet by 15 feet) – get up and walk around inisde the virtual world! "

"The Vive headset was developed in conjunction with Valve, creators of such ground-breaking games as Portal and Half-Life. HTC manufactures some of the finest consumer electronics on the planet and Valve is an unrivaled architect of virtual worlds, so you know the collaboration is something special. Vive is powered by Valve’s SteamVR so plenty of games that take advantage of its capabilities will soon be available on the Steam service. "

So is oculus bringing anything new to the show besides the standard response of ...SOOOOONNNNN!

If they dont, they just lost.

GDC is not normally a platform for product announcements. That's E3.

Do you think Valve's VR controller will have the same issues as Morpheus?

Has any new info resurfaced? I saw a video, when a game journalist says, that in the "job" demo, the controllers show the lack of dexterity.
I guess that means laggy and "wobbly" (postition artifacts) hand positioning.
And if so, I wonder how the situation looks in this matter.
Is it maybe just a software issue?
Are current affordable technologies (let's not focus on what that means here), capable of 100% perfect and natural hand/controller positioning?
If not, how many years until it is?
Not an Oculus hater, but not a fan anymore. Still lots of respect for the team-Carmack, Abrash. Oculus is driven by big corporation principles now. That brings painful effects already, more to come in the future. This is not the Oculus I once cheered for.

I don' t know what the problem is.
If you check the video here

You can see Gabe endorse Oculus and say that only Palmer can tackle some of the VR problems

Funny art. Written by VR Virgin I presume.

It probably just means that the way the controller is held doesn't allow for very precise things. If held a pen the same way you held the controller your hand writing wouldn't be very good.

Ther controller accuracy should be pretty similar to the HMD. Many people have praised the tracking of the HMD and I haven't heard anyone say it caused them nausea. So it's very hard to believe there would be any noticeable lag on the controller tracking.

I wonder what the relationship is between Valve and Oculus at this point, Carmack says they weren't invited to demo the Vive, whereas Sony did invite them to demo the Morpheus.

Morpheus and Oculus are not competitor...Morpheus is for console and Oculus is for PC...Valve and Oculus are competitors...

Project Morpheus is not a threat to any of these 2, it's just the little brother 🙂

If oculus can provide us with the right tools for hand presence, they will win.
I don't think any sane dev will create a commercial standing experience. Hardcore gamers and VR enthusiasts know about the risks of standing up, but the average consumer doesn't. Law suit waiting to happen.

I really want standing experiences, but as long as people can severely injure themselves it's not really an option.
