Has Virtual link failed already?

Or is it just a hardware issue with index?
I see Valve have pulled their VR Link adapter from sale stating it was not stable enough.... This is a real bummer imo. I dunno about you but I thought the VR Link on the nvidia gpus was actually a really nice thing to have which would hugely cut down on wires and what not for those who want to stick with fully tracked devices.

so what do you think, early teething issues or is it a dead duck already?
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

Kronos group wasn't it?
They are backed by all the major players and are also the creators of open XR

Do we know who developed virtual link? Wiki says it’s supported by all the major players but I have no idea what that means. It feels like a selling point to shift new cards without a foundation of testing having been done.

NVIDIA, Oculus, Valve, Microsoft, AMD, and HTC

I think there’s a gap somewhere between backing and developing. Perhaps a mixture of theoretical and actual testing was done... by someone.

Open standard:
VirtualLink has been developed as an open standard by an industry consortium of leading silicon, software, and headset manufacturers led by NVIDIA, Oculus, Valve, Microsoft, AMD, and HTC.

GRL is the first testing company authorized by the VirtualLink
Consortium – led by NVIDIA, Oculus, Valve, AMD, Microsoft, and HTC – to
test products to ensure that they meet the VirtualLink specification.

“A strong test program is critical to the successful rollout of
VirtualLink-enabled products,” said Rambod Jacoby, principal
technologist at NVIDIA and chairman of the VirtualLink Consortium.

I still stand by all 5 companies being the developer of the standard. But perhaps nvidia might have a bit more skin in the game as suggested by the above statement.

yeah I may be letting my cynical nature get the better of me on this one.
It’s a big benefit for tethered headsets and the intent is good. I suspect though that headset manufacturers have more to gain from a roadmap that has wireless linking with us sooner rather than later so their development resources being used to get VL to work may be quite limited.

Well observed - its the "good intention" path, that falls down when a actual commitment is needed. This will be an issue, as Samsung and Acer have big headset plans, but little inclination to include a VirtualLink element. And we also can expect HTC to fudge their interest in this single cable solution.
