Oculus has said that a product needs to be complete 12 months before it actually ships, I think that product "CV1" was Crescent Bay so my timeline puts this at holidays 2015. >;{}

I was amazed at the sky is falling types. Any reasonable person would think that Oculus would have done some interesting updates to their prototypes in the last six or seven months since the Crescent Bay prototype release. According to the Vive demo developer, Valve was scrambling to get their prototype ready for GDC, and now releasing a consumer version by the end of the year doesn't give them a lot of time before their final specs have to be set. Oculus will have had well over a year to improve on the Crescent Bay prototype even if they manage to release the CV1 close to the end of 2015.

Unless valve are working with HTC release schedules/cycles 6 months I doubt they can make their release window, but I really hope I'm wrong - "Won't be the first time or the last." >;{}

Crescent Bay technology is over a year old now and Oculus stated at CES last year they are producing a new prototype about every 1 - 1.5 months. This means that, at this consistent rate of development, Crescent Bay is between 12 to 18 generations old!

Just something to think about.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

At some point in the cycle they have to draw a line, I think that line was Crescent Bay, or a tweaked version. I would hope most of the prototyping has been done around input, and refining what they already have. >;{}

Q1 2016 still seems the safest bet - with a Limited consumer testing program Q4 2015 to use as a media magnet.
