like many people i was at my desk, trying an experience leaned over to look and BOOM hit my headset on the desk. doesn't seem like it got scratched but i worry. I know some electronics can last. but some other break easy. in general how touch is the CV1 to little bumps and stuff?

Olny one way to find out

But in reality:
Chipsets are verry tough, i assume the LCD is just directly on the chipset and no glass on top of it like a phone
The IR leds should also be verry tough
The IPD adjustment slider is mechanical so asume its made of plastic it could break
The lenses are bigger problem you dont want them cracked or thier support broken

The only reason I managed to escape that experience is because I read about it beforehand, so I was careful to pull back my chair from my desk every time from the start, and sure enough on my first day my head had already wandered bellow the desk level before I knew it (I reached out to confirm my head had wandered bellow the desk level).

What you should beware of is demonstrating a VR horror game to a first time user, which could result in him tearing off and throwing away the headset out of panic when a creature jumps at his face : That's enough to break it, and maybe your TV with it.

Basically beware of first time users, starting with yourself.

you should tape the HMD to his head lol, personaly i am avoiding horror stuff its not my kind of game

I banged my Rift against the wall twice playing the climb (I have a very small games room)

when I was with London Underground as an electrical engineer one rule when working near live current rails was you had to wear long trousers... no shorts, not because they gave you any electrical resistance but because they gave a warning of touching the rail before your leg did

anyway... maybe wearing a big clown wig will give the same warning when using the Rift

Mine has had a small bump on my monitor with no issues.

I believe one has been broken by a sharp pull on the wire which flung it across the room.

Until more people push them past the limits we won't know where the limit is.

It is weird how you lose the sense of where you are while wearing the rift. It is easy to bump into things a little, but so far no damage. I start off facing my computer desk, but sometimes when I take it off thinking Im still facing my desk, I find I am actually not where I thought I was.

I guess the Vive addresses this more than the Rift.

Its concerning to me should I buy an HDMI extension lead, The Climb, and Oculus Touch when released - that I could take it off and find myself half way up the side of my house or something.

I'm not entirely sure the Oculus is tough enough to withstand the impact should I fall either.

The nose gap is so useful for me. I don't lose sense at all of where i am. and i frequently use the nose gap to look at things including finding my xbox controller or the  remote or the chair. And it doesn't bother me that it exists. It's actually useful 🙂 🙂

My Rift has survived a handful of bumps, and several yanks (mostly with newcomers trying Affected). More importantly, it survived several VR Porn sessions by yours truly. High marks in toughness! :#

the phrase 'too much detail' has never been so apt
