How are Retro Games similar to doom in the Rift?

Hey everyone,

Like the title says how are retro games similar to the Doom, Hexen, Daggerfall, etc. in the rift?

Do they make you nauseous or no?

I am wanting to remake most of my games assets to be of retro lo fi art style but I would like to avoid nausea and motion sickness where possible.

Thank you for your time,

Well, fortunately you can try for yourself. I didn't get any motion sickness from that, but someone who's been using the DK1 daily for almost a year is the last person to ask. But, IMO, whether or not it causes simsickness all comes down to how the locomotion is implemented, not the low-fi graphic style.

Has anyone made an Oculus port of Dactyl Nightmare?

I myself didn't get motionsickness but did get a headache after a while (due to non native headtracking) the RIFT isn't intended for "retro gaming" according to most users. But I personally love using the rift for retro gaming the most.
When I was playing Duke Nukem collection, I really didn't feel like I was actually there or didn't feel apart of the world (how ever everything did feel lifesize) but it just felt strange since everything is 8 bits or higher.

the first game i ever played with a VR headset was duke3d in the mid 90s i guess? was pretty awesome, not sure if it was stereo or not.

second one i ever played was terminal velocity... i think in 1998? that was for sure stereo...

In my opinion, they are just as fun as more modern games, and the effect of VR enhances them just as much as any other game. Rooms in doom may only be made of a few polygons, but it is still awesome when the ceiling towers over your head. Pinky demons are freaky when they bite at you, because they are suddenly bigger than you. It's a great feeling and the dated graphics don't drag it down like you'd think it would.

I did get a little VR sickness at first from playing them, but your stomach gets used to it after a while and now I feel nothing even after extended play sessions.

Plus, I love playing my own Doom levels in the Rift! Best experience I've had thus far with it! ^_^
