How does ED really look in DK2?

Just wondering but how does Elite Dangerous really look in DK2?

I have read many things and no real answer as both sides are so extreme in their reaction. Is it really worth getting ED with the DK2 or not?

One side basically says that the cockpit is nice, but everything else is a juddering, SDE ridden mess of colorful puke and diarrhea smeared all over your field of view.

The other side basically says that it's like God reached down and brought forth a vision of the universe in all its majestic magistracy and the mere sight of it causes an instantaneous scifi technogasm leaving them in a state of bliss unlike anything you could imagine.

I imagine it is somewhere in between, but really how good is it?

Some say the text is illegible mess no matter what you do. Others say it is perfectly fine and easily read and if you have issues you can lean in a little to make it even easier.

I don't really want to spend a couple hundred or more on something that looks like crap. (Joystick and $75 for game) So any experienced players with some insight that can give a fair and balanced idea of what to expect?

DK2+E:D+X52Pro HOTAS= Best and most complete VR experience/game out there right now!

Get it! 😄

Agreed, nothing else has impressed me quite as much. It has a lot to do with immersion, but also a lot to do with the fact that Elite: Dangerous has the most content compared to other games that work with DK2. With an X52 Pro, you are like 90% actually there when you play.

and the other 10% is trying not to knock your beer over

Hotas is the way to go! It's essential for ED, and many other flight sim type games. ED is indeed very immersive, time literally flies with your dk2 and surround sound headphones, just the other day I missed 4 phone calls, 2 deliveries and a spider crawling up my left arm.

My only wish is for a higher resolution, better optimisations for mid-high end pc set ups.

It will never look as good in the rift as it does on a nice monitor. But with a monitor you will never know just how awe inspiring it is to look up at the sun from inside your cockpit while cruising at 30km/s.

Disappointed, I thought you meant Eternal Darkness. Imagine VR sanity effects!

That would be pretty fun actually!

Thanks for all the feedback!

I will place my HOTAS order today and nab ED as soon as I have everything setup and ready!

I don't mind a bit of resolution loss as I grew up playing things like Wing Commander and they were never exactly lifelike resolution. I will also try the patch mentioned.. Well unless by the time everything arrives they release a updated Beta with it included. Hopefully one with an option to change text color as well, though not a deal breaker.

I think this game will be an excellent first game to play with my new 970 or 980 next month! Right now just have a 560ti so will have to wait just a few more weeks, but will definitely get it!

Like I said I grew up with the Wing Commander games so actually being in the star fighter will be a dream come true even with a little pixelation (Which Wing Commander had tons of back in the day, but it was still super fun). I feel a lot more comfy spending the money having heard some good hands on experiences. I find a lot of people focus a lot on the negative so that's what you end up hearing mostly when reading up on things.

Thanks again all!

Without this fix it looks like garbage. With it, it looks great - but of course the resolution is like everything else with the DK2.

Regarding judder, that depends on your gpu... i cant get it judder free with a single 7970 but with 2x 7970 in CF its totaly smooth for me. Depends on your gpu i guess...

Wow, thank you so much! That improved the graphics substantially. I definitely recommend everyone to do this.

ED is one of the best experiences in the rift. I'll be glad when it gets patched to work with the newest sdk and the performance is improved though.

It is definitely over hyped in my opinion, and not worth anywhere near the amount of money being charged. The graphics really aren't that impressive. The space station was a real letdown to what I was expecting. The inside of the cockpit is somewhat interesting, but DCS is definitely better.

It's a nice experience, but honestly there are better games out there.

Also, i find I get sick pretty fast in ED, even though I have it running without any judder, (after turning down settings and tweaking stuff)

Unless you HAVE to experience a space flight game right now, I would save your money.

The CA fix made a noticeable difference for me too. Highly recommended to use.

Reading the Reddit posts I am wary to try that fix (the file hosting it gives you spyware if you click on the wrong link).

Someone posted a 1.04 exe, but the game is now up to 1.06. I don't think the fix works for the new exe anyways.
