How should VR really be like?

I think VR should live up to its name and be Virtual Reality.
As it stands now it's just a 360 Degree 3D TV with Cameras
I'm probably just too into sci-fi...
it should be like living inside another world except with different rules depending on the games.
No restrictions or limitations except game world rules.

The thing that pulls you into the game or environment is not the headset or 3d effect, but rather the content. I'll put up with a lot of deficiencies to see my content in 3d.
Just like in the early days of 3d cinema there will be a lot of junk that celebrates the stereo effect rather than contributing to the content itself.
The 3d effect should simply enhance the content, but creators just love to have things jumping out of the screen at you, for the sake of demonstrating the technology.

When you look at how far we've come in such a short time in terms of PC technology I'd say we're not too far off tbh.

Just compare how far we've come in terms of 3D graphics since Wolfenstein 3D in the 90s. Another 20 years and we may have trouble telling the difference between computer graphics and reality. We're almost there with computer generated graphics for special effects in films today so home computers won't be too far away.

I totally agree with this. I am gladly dealing with a bit of screendoor effect to sit in the cockpit of my racecars, airplanes, and spaceships. Elite Dangerous on a regular screen isn't even a consideration after playing it in VR, even with our limited hardware.

yes but if it were possible wouldnt you prefer to feel it completly, feel the movement and friction of the car as it moves as well as being able to really be behind the wheel instead of moving your hands or controller?
the technology might not be here yet but it will be in the future

Of course! When it is possible to jack into the Matrix, I will be one of the first to sign up for the port in my spine!

I will enjoy all the iterations between now and then as well 🙂

So long as technology keeps evolving more doors are opened to us.
something that is science fiction today can be science fact tommorow.
After all, there is many people out there that are working to make it possible.

Nothing can be better than succeed in the final
Who cares where you are from, and who you are. What they care most is whether you can succeed or not. People always say process is important. I think it is just an excuse for those who fail. The world remembers only hero! No matter how small they are and no matter how dirty the way is, you win, you are the hero! So do everything you can if you want to be

The next obvious step would be to 'feel' the virtual world and interact with it. This could be done with a motorized suit connected to an array which suspends you in the air. It would have breaks that stop your hand when you touch a wall, or your feet when they touch ground. The entire body for that matter. If the array is powerful enough to lift you up and down, throw you to the sides, do 360s and tilt your body it can even simulate acceleration and other forces. That would be extremely immersive and I think you'd quickly forget about smelling stuff. The idea of how we can do such things is clear, and it is possible. But not today. Robotics have not come far enough in that regard. It would be a crude experience at most. But perhaps in 20-30 years if someone focuses on R&D?

Keep dreaming.

A method for talking with anyone in the world instantly? impossible!
An internal combustion machine? impossible!
Flying machines? impossible!
A programmable electronic machine that performs high-speed mathematical operations? impossible!
A computer the size of my finger? impossible!
True VR? impossible!

I don't think I'd want to beta test a spine interface vr system. 🙂
