Gear vr prompted an update. It automatically downloaded Oculus Home for China. After that all my apps are no longer visible, replaced with only gallery, samsung interne, and youku vr, which is a china YouTube.

I have no direct access to the Oculus store from the VR environment and it sucks big time.

After much searching around the internet. All you need to do is uninstall, then put an international sim card in your phone, plug it back in. All good.

(maybe a VPN too)

Then you havent done much searching, this totally doesnt work.

Having the same problem. Always prompted to download "Oculus home for china" even with my VPN on and my international simcard in the phone.
I factory reset my phone in europe, then all was good again. Could access the normal oculus home and my content from the past. Now I'm back in china, some godd*mn story. Atleast is still have my Oculus home shortcut and app working. This i deleted last time with no way of getting back, even with factory reset in china.

I've gone through the Oculus helpdesk, in the end stating "these features are not available in this country".
So a bit stuck, and it sucks.

I have downloaded the original Oculus Launcher here in china by un installing all the apps that have been updated by the china sim and downloading each one from a site called apkmirror.com. Just type in Oculus and download all the latest apps related that you have deleted. Also search the Gear VR apps and all related. Before docking your device remove your china sim.

I suggest you to search a bit on baidu, there is not much content on that issue in english, but on the chinese internet, some people already found some interesting things, like here http://bbs.gfan.com/android-9170881-1-1.html. A bit of google translate and here you are 🙂

Tested successfully in china

For the more techies out there, here is a solution that works **on a rooted phone only**. You need to run the following commands via ADB:

- adb shell su root setprop gsm.sim.operator.iso-country us
- adb shell su root setprop gsm.operator.iso-country us
- adb shell su root setprop gsm.operator.numeric 310030
- adb shell su root setprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric 310030

You can obviously change "us" and "310030" if you want to be seen by Oculus as from another country than the US.

Then, make sure you're on a VPN with a server in the US et voilà, Oculus thinks you're in the US and you've defeated the great China firewall!!!

Careful, the above properties get reset to China values whenever you reboot your phone so do the above all over again after you reboot your phone if you want to be seen as american by Oculus.
