I just about broke my fingers on VR sports challenge...

So everything was fine til the sports challenge.  Specifically the Home Run bit.  I was in the middle of the guardian, nothing showing - till I swung.  And by then it was too late.

My room is almost too small as it is.  I know that.  Even standing games (they say they require 7x5) - they should be good, but it's close.

This one should have been ok.

Tell that to my finger tho - It's black, it's blue, it's swollen and it hurts like heck.

Be careful out there.

Heh, I recently punched a wall playing Superhot VR. Luckily Superhot isnt a "fast" paced game it was only a mild punch, but enough to make me take off my HMD and inspect my Touch for damage. Luckily, the wall and touch are fine though. 🙂

I wish you could hold your arms out and the Guardian system could measure the distance from your arms to your headset.  Then it could warn you when you're within arm's length.

Nintendo really went through the ringer having to deal with real (and fake) Nintendo Wii injury and damage claims:

The situation got to such a point that Nintendo had to redevelop their platform to be seen to negate major claims. It is reported by some sources that the injury claims seriously impacted NOA profits.

The hope had been that 'Chaperone' and 'Guardian' would have mitigated this danger of having to deal with a high number of personal injury claims from VR owners.

It would be interesting to know if 'Guardian' has failed to negate these issues, or if it is just impossible to police users movements within a virtual space effectively to completely remove the danger of injury?

I've been VERY pleasantly surprised by VR Sports Challenge. I just assumed that it was going to be a pile of old pants but I played it last night and it's great. It's a shame that there's only 3 sports though and they're a little too US-centric for my liking. They could have done with adding a few international sports like Tennis, Table Tennis, Boxing, Skeet Shooting or something. Although I guess that those aren't suitable for the franchise model.

Still, the 3 sports that are there are great to play so I can't complain too much!  😄

Baseball
Basketball
American Football
Ice Hockey

Erm isn't that 4?

I do find the Ice Hockey quite hard, I mean I start off ok, but towards the end of the game they are firing pucks at me and scoring goals for fun. Doesn't help that I too have limited space.

Basketball is probably the most friendly limited space game. Those with low ceilings, you can play basketball quite well sitting down.

I' sorry OP. THat is exactly what almost happened to me when playing the hockey. I literally almost sliced my hand open on the edge of my office desk on my 5 1/2 x 6' space. Then I hit the ceiling with the controller playing basketball. Ultimately I moved everything to my living room which I didn't want to make look like a VR room, but it has the optimal space and VR fun trumped the look of the room lol.

That sucks, and that's a massive gash in the edge there. Battle scars do look cool though. Good luck with your repair, funny that you'll be using a real gun (soldering gun/iron at least) to fix your virtual one.

Yeh a real mess.. big gash from hitting desk instead of ball, Totally my fault but worth a share to warn of the dangers of over enthusiasm seated in close proximity of desk - Best to set up the 'zone' well away from permanent fixtures.... Set-up said 'stand up' but i couldn't be bothered and carried on, maybe that's where i went wrong?

I'll post more shots of attempted repair once repair kit arrives & the soldering iron warms up (-:
