I never see differences in IPD settings

Is this just me? IPD is a big deal in discussions, but I set it at 62, or 65, or 70 and don't notice any meaningful differences: clarity is the same, scale is the same.

Just FOV is wider at higher numbers with more obvious binocular overlap. Lower IPD i begin to physically feel the edge of the lenses on my forehead, and barely any overlap (black line between both lenses) perceptible.

But the actual image-quality stays the same. I've done long session on both 65 and 70 and notice no difference in fatigue or headaches (I have neither). Sharpness & scale are always fine. No issues.

What am I missing? Or am I a weird lucky outlier for whom IPD is largely irrelevant?

I've used Quest, Rift S, Index, Pico and Vive headsets over the years.

I think some are more IPD tolerant than others.  Also, the introduction of pancake lens with the QPro and Q3 these have made everyone a little more IPD tolerant as well.  With my Rift cv1 and Vive Pro1 there are background horizontal and vertical overlays to help finetune the IPD settings.  You can also use the Rift home white void and SteamVR dark void lines to help as well.

In any case I think you are best to set the IPD to your actual IPD +/-1mm in order to avoid eyestrain, esp. with longish VR sessions.

Are you using a Quest 2 or Quest 3? if it's a Quest 2 you'd definitely see a difference in clarity if your IPD isn't set right because the lenses in that headset have a comparatively small sweat spot.

With the Quest 3, there's no longer a sweet spot as the pancake lenses are pretty much in focus over the whole screen, so changing the IPD doesn't affect the clarity as it did with the Quest 2.

It still changes the separation of the two images though to match your eyes so it's important to set it correctly to avoid eye strain over time as @TomCgcmfc mentioned.

Exactly same here - no any difference from end to end ! On Quest 2 i could notice difference between the 3 steps !
