I thought my CPU would be fine but I just ran the "Oculus compatibility tool" and it says I7-3770k (which is clocked at 4.4) is not compatible and minimum spec is I5-4590???....maybe not?

Hello,

I have also the 3770k but I also have a gtx 670 4gb. Would I be able to get by with that card and cpu? I know I wouldn't get the best results, but decent or just below? I ran the test and thought well damn, I can't do it.

That gpu isn't going to cut it unfortunately.

I'd be inclined to disagree, it depends what he wants to run. I tried the dk2 on my daughters PC when she had a gtx 480, and it ran most if the demos just fine.

For serious games yeh, might have some issues.

Yes it's exactly what I did with the DK2 and I got 99% utilisation on games just fine.

It was only small indy titles that didn't utilise SLI, in which case one card was fine, it scales just fine in AI, Minecraft, ED etc.

Oh and I was also running three screens in this set up whilst running Alien Isolation or Minecraft etc:

🙂

GTX 970 with I7 4770k:

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2816888

Firestrike score 9931

My score from two years ago on this rig:

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/2110919

Firestrike score 16189

Have since two years ago also heavily overclocked botrh GPU's and the system and it now has more ram and bigger SSD.

For those with single 780's one overclocked GTX 780 can outperform a 970 benching fs:

I'm pretty sure I and you guys and are covered.

And if there is crap software that doesn't utilise SLI I don't run it anyway. I need dual GPU's for my surround setup as I have six monitors (which i totally need)...

Hey guys, so I have a GTX 745 and an i5-4460. I fully intend to upgrade my GPU to the GTX 970, but what about the CPU? I know my i5-4460 is below the recommended minimum of i5-4590, but will that really make a difference? Is there any chance I can get away with keeping the 4460?

I failed the compat test in two spots.

i5 2500K @4.2GHz I know I didn't get the best overclockable chip out there, but I still suspect it will run just fine in the Rift.

Modern games for the last year or so often list whatever the current CPU is that year as required in spec lists, but the 2500K always does just as good. Tech site benchmarks have been saying every CPU released after 2011 doesn't give better performance in games, and posters at tech forum sites still to this day say it is a wasteful upgrade for anything replacing a 2500K for gaming purposes. So I will defeinitely at least take a wait-and-see approach, as I don't plan to upgrade until Cannonlake in 2018 (?).

I am concerened about failing the USB 3.0 test, though. I have a Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P motherboard that has two USB 3.0 ports and a Coolermaster Stormtrooper case that has two additional 3.0 ports on the front (that are connected correctly to the board and they do function) I have the most up-to-date USB 3.) drivers for the board as well.

I have a decent but not in-depth understanding of PC gaming components, so could someone explain why I need the $26 USB 3.0 Extension Card that the Compat tool links to ? ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FPIMJEW )

The tool says two instances of "Etron USB 3.0 Extensible Host Controller" as the reason why it isn't compatible with the Rift.

Ya, this is what I'm wondering as well.

For me I failed the CPU test, but I'm not too worried. I have an overclocked AMD 8530 and will probably be fine.

But, I also failed the USB 3.0 test, which I'm not sure why.
The error is:
ASMedia USB 3.0 eXstensible Host C

Is USB 3.0 not USB 3.0 lol. Why would I fail this test? (Motherboard is ASUS Sabertooth 990fx R2.0)
