If you miss the sale,
it is always really cheap on Amazon. it is currently £16 i think i manage my copy cheaper still when i picked it up
Look, man. I only need to know one thing: where they are.

I bought it from them directly, so the Steam sale is no use to me - though all I want now is Kuban - which I can fly on in multiplayer anyway, and the Spitfire, when it comes out.

I really disliked this sim before - not just the registering and activation PITA, but the FM (okay GM really - it was the ground handling I hated) was awful imho - until that last patch. Since then I've been having a ball with it - even managed to blast a 109 theother day online, in my P-40E. And I'm awful at dogfighting!

Since that patch I bought the Moscow map, Yak-1b and La-5 in addition to my P-40 . I will by Kuban - it's a great map, but what I realy want is the aircraft that will come with it - the P-39 and the A-20 especially will be awesome B)

It is expensive at normal price, though, with the pound sterling in the doldrums.

I have the spitfire mate, bloody awesome looking out at those wings in vr 🙂
A PC with lots of gadgets inside and a thing to see in 3D that you put on your head.

OK well i picked this up, the deluxe edition..... and i have to admit i
did something i bit scuzzy... i got it from G2A. £18 for the deluxe
edition..... it does mean no refunds however....... which, actually i
would be considering had i got from steam i think.

The VR implementation in game is OK. it has potential that is for sure,
and the plane cockpit detail is excellent, but steamVR compared to
native oculus is just poor when the 2 are compared together (on the rift
that is, i am not making a blanket judgement of steamVR)

i get drift in the cockpit and this is something i have not experienced
in my rift for over 6 months, and if i have the hud on then performance
is not great on my GTX980. Without the hud on it runs better however it
is pretty damn hardcore then - its hard enough with the hud on, but
without its nails (very immersive however).

There is no going back for me now so i really hope the guys work on vr
some more and maybe consider supporting the rift natively.

it is still so far the best VR flight sim in these kinds of planes for
me, warthunder makes me feel ill, and the last time i played dcs it ran
like pony.

also it did not recognise my X55 hotas at all, and assigned my throttle
as the primary control joystick. i need to see if i can find a ready
configured control binding for my stick... and i am stuffed if i can get
my throttle to work, i assigned it in the controls but it did nothing
in game

now, dont let me put you off this, a lot of this is probably just
teething issues and the fact that i am just not used to "real" flight
sims any more - the last "sims" i really got into were back in the amiga
years and very old PC, so this is just more hardcore than i am used
to.... and if you have a kick ass pc i am sure performance will be ok

Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

@bigmike20vt

what pc specs Mike also settings? i am sure others who know more will come along but mine is really smooth experience at medium and high settings with my standard oversampling with the traytool at 1.7

I have a 1080 now but it played just as well on the 1070 i have for a short time. There was a good post in their vr forums i seem to remember i followed for setups.

Yes IL-2 is a fantastic sim in VR. I have a tremendous amount of hours in it now since their VR implementation. Not sure why you would be getting drift though, I am not having that issue with it - has been rock solid for me.
I would clarify I do see drift only when the game is paused, once in-paused it is solid for me. Once I start a mission and in-pause I center my VR view ( have assigned to button on my stick ) one time and it is solid from there.

Yes definitely run with the HUD off, get used to using the instruments best you can. I have mine set to a toggle switch on my HOTAS so can toggle on when needed then quickly back off again.

i7 5820 and gtx 980, running on medium with no super samping..... i will try on lower next time but that is not something i am used to even with the 980.......

edit.. ahh yeah so the drift was in pause, so i will set up a reset view and see if it is stable then... last night i was in pause a lot as i was setting up controls on the fly as it were which is perhaps why i noticed the drift..... fingers crossed its not in game then..... thanks

Yeah it drifts when in cockpit while the game is paused. No clue why but it doesn't actually hurt anything since the instant you unpause it, it corrects itself. The performance in VR does leave something to be desired. It's probably a CPU bottleneck though. BoS uses an older game engine that has a single CPU core feeding the GPU. Flight sims, by virtue of the required draw distances, tend to have a lot of objects to render. The general consensus is in order to see a reasonably consistent 90 fps at the high detail preset, you need a CPU running 4.7 GHz or higher. Basically, there isn't a CPU on the face of the planet fast enough out of the box. Even the shiny new i7-8700k must be overclocked. Hopefully they get that sorted out soon. It is on their to do list. I run it on balanced just fine with a 4.0GHz R5 1600x. I don't know if your 980 is also a bottleneck, it might be.

Yes, IL-2 is fantastic in VR, but as has been said, performance is not on par, even with high end CPUs and GPUs you struggle to get 90 FPS all the time.

I'm always at 45 FPS ASW land, with 50% GPU usage, so at least I can improve visuals after all, but it's not desired.

I think we need a totally new multithreaded engines for flying in VR, which only Aerofly FS2 seems to get it right ATM.

Anyway, at the current state, the immersion, graphics and flight model IL-2 provides is really great, and totally worth getting it on every VR simmer's library.

I bought BOW at full price from their site a couple months ago, and I don't regret it. The promised dynamic campaign and Kuban map will be fantastic additions if the team deliver as promised!!
