[IMAGINE / RP] SAO made for Rift

Simpanra
Honored Guest
For anybody who didn't read the title close enough, this is an imagine if/ how would that work/ what would you do etc thread.

Imagine if (within the bounds of our current technology) SAO was made as close to the original (
minus the dying part
) for us to play with DK2!

What would you do?
Where would you go?
What would you look like?
What weapons would you use?
Would you join the Laughing Coffins?
How long would you spend in-game per day?
Would you say Link Start just for the sake of it?
Why are my questions getting gradually longer in a slope?
What would you like to be able to do in SAO with your friends?
Would you become a trader or join a fighting guild and kill kill kill?
What extra peripheral devices would you purchase so that you immersed more?
Would you prefer a developer try to make SAO or the newer, more modern equivalent GGO?
Is there no end to the continuous slope of questions or is it getting smaller?
Are you one of the few people who would rather play the MMO with wings?
What do you think a Halloween event would be in SAO? Zombies?
Would you prefer just DK2 or a full dive kit for gaming?
How much would you pay to play this game?
Would you want an offline mode?
Answer all this below!

Hell yeah, I'll bite.
Since SAO(which was such a touching and yearnful series) I have taken a lot of interest in this fairly new genre of anime/manga/light novels. I've seen and read all of Log Horizon (which I have to admit I like a little better than SAO now) and The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor (I gave up at least 2 weeks of my life, 12 hours a day, reading this to get caught up), and there are so many ideas in all of them, not to mention 1/2 Prince and the original .hack// series.
So some of my ideas might not be things we've seen in SAO, or any of those, but in my ideal world this is what I'd do.

What would you do? Multibox, somehow. Get some kind of Deep Dive helm cable splitter that lets me send signals to multiple accounts. I can't even imagine how much this would cost. It hasn't been done in any of the stories, but I really believe that our minds would be capable of handling multiple inputs/outputs like that for simple actions. But for the rest of the questions, I'll answer as if I'm playing just one character on one account.
Where would you go? I'd probably grind all day every day, in less populated areas. But with this as a full dive situation, I probably wouldn't be completely solo like our indefatigable protagonist. I'd want to be somewhere where we could AoE huge numbers for more loot and XP.
What would you look like? Honestly, I'd probably switch genders, because 50% of the time in MMOs I do. It'd be really interesting to look down at your arms and legs and torso, and see that you were completely different from real life (there is a group somewhere that's using the Rift system to do this, to teach about gender dismorphia or something) Since the perception would be first-person anyway, it's not so much about how you want to see yourself, but how you want others to see you.
What weapons would you use? For AoE style stuff, a big 2-handed sword or polearm or spear. I'm also more of a tank in mindset, so I'd probably do the sword&board load-out in a normal group.
Would you join the Laughing Coffins? Hell no. I prefer cooperating with other players against a much stronger enemy like a raid boss, not making enemies of other players. I know there's need for PVE and PVP servers to please everyone, but I feel like this was a horrible feature by the mad scientist dude, because PVP situations should always be consensual. I'd join in that expedition to put these guys down, though.
How long would you spend in-game per day? I'd sleep in there if I could.
Would you say Link Start just for the sake of it? At least once.
Why are my questions getting gradually longer in a slope? Balance and unity of form and focus. B.U.F.F. It's artistic, but also functional; good design philosophy.
What would you like to be able to do in SAO with your friends? Travel a lot. I think there's so much to see on all of the different floors. It's not just one world; there's 100 worlds to see.
Would you become a trader or join a fighting guild and kill kill kill? Yes. After reading Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, I'd like to do something odd like be a production class (blacksmith etc) who trains in combat until I'm on a equal level with the fighter classes. I'd pretty much roleplay as Weed (the protagonist of that series) who never misses on a chance to make even a single copper. That, or I'd become the best potion maker/bandager and play a goofy sort of healer, since there were no healing classes in SAO. I'd totally become a chef, too, like Kirito did, or Chief Nyanta in Log Horizon, or Weed in Legendary Moonlight Sculptor. I definitely wouldn't spend all day waiting for customers to come in a shop, or working the auction house, though; I don't know how people find that fun. You've got a whole world of monsters out there to fight, why sit in the town walls all day?
What extra peripheral devices would you purchase so that you immersed more? I can't think of any, since I imagine the full dive equipment hijacks all of your perception and consciousness.
Would you prefer a developer try to make SAO or the newer, more modern equivalent GGO? SAO, at least at first. Don't get me wrong; GGO is cool, and that first PVP fight with the sniper in the church was SUPERB action, it'd still attract too many Modern Warfare XBox live kiddie, and I don't know if I could handle having to use the mute function 10000 times.
Is there no end to the continuous slope of questions or is it getting smaller? At the time you typed this, there was an ever-expanding end, but now the end is finite.
Are you one of the few people who would rather play the MMO with wings? Kinda, yeah. I'd rather play the original SAO, but with a fast travel kind of function. But why play (or even make) a game that only allows walking? You could do that in real life. It shouldn't be a limit in virtual real life.
What do you think a Halloween event would be in SAO? Zombies? And trick-or-treating; knock on buildings in town, and either a zombie horde would come out, or a nice NPC giving you candy/potions/buffs. Of course the zombies would also drop those items when they die, too.
Would you prefer just DK2 or a full dive kit for gaming? Full dive LINKU START
How much would you pay to play this game? I would probably find a way to monetize playing the game. It'd be expensive as hell, but I'd try to find an interesting way to stream gameplay to get viewers, or do real money trade if legal.
Would you want an offline mode? Yes. For the sake of stuff like production skills or just levelling up sword skills etc. this should be an available function. It could probably be abused by hackers though, who'd go into offline mode for 5 minutes and come back like "I just levelled up my blacksmithing from 1-650 by making 400000 suits of armor" etc., which is probably why they wouldn't have an offline mode for the reason I'd want it.

What would you do?

Throw up due to extreme simulator sickness. Current technology is not good enough for anything but the most basic VR.

Not to be a spoilsport or anything, but we are at least a year away from having comfortable seated experiences.

I'll bite as well, even though this should be in the Lounge 😛

What would you do?

Kill people, trade, kill mobs to gain uber levels / gear

Where would you go?

Wherever I pleased

What would you look like?

Female assassin style.. my usual MMORPG style. Although for a first person mmorpg, I might go male for obvious reasons. Race-wise.. depends on the racial stats.

What weapons would you use?

Dual weapons, ie: 2x daggers or 2x swords and a bow

Would you join the Laughing Coffins?

Yes.

How long would you spend in-game per day?

Can I log out? I hope not

Would you say Link Start just for the sake of it?

Maybe.. Voice Attack macro, "Link Start" to launch the game would be epic

Why are my questions getting gradually longer in a slope?

You're bored?

What would you like to be able to do in SAO with your friends?

Kill people.

Would you become a trader or join a fighting guild and kill kill kill?

Both. In Eve-online, I had an industrial character and an assassin character (bad ass, fully trained pilgrim pilot).. I would scout the different areas and get intel on ships and layouts. With my industrialists, I would stock the local markets with those. After they where stocked, I would go out and kill people. They in turn, would purchase their replacement equipment from me, with a pretty heavy markup. Twice screwed by me, rofl.,

What extra peripheral devices would you purchase so that you immersed more?

Depends on compatible devices tbh.

Would you prefer a developer try to make SAO or the newer, more modern equivalent GGO?

I prefer the fantasy RPG games to the shooter games. Both have their merits though. Either way, I would go assassin/sniper.

Is there no end to the continuous slope of questions or is it getting smaller?

What?

Are you one of the few people who would rather play the MMO with wings?

Depends on functionality. Flight tends to get you to better ambush positions.

What do you think a Halloween event would be in SAO? Zombies?

Hellraiser puzzle boxes..

Would you prefer just DK2 or a full dive kit for gaming?

Full Dive due to the direct to brain interface.

How much would you pay to play this game?

$20/month if it didn't involve the entire "you can't log out, die in game, die irl" aspects. If it had that, umm.. feature, then I would pay alot more (my life savings).

Would you want an offline mode?

No.

What I would be?
I doubt such a role would exist, but I'd just be a stealth/illusion mage that acts as an explorer/recon specialist. The spells I'd want would focus on scouting, misdirection, concealment, escapes and other tricks. Since I'm not combat focused, I'd just want a small wand or dagger for basic self-defense.

What would I do? I've listed the following things to do in order of my personal interest:
If explorer-style: Explore the world like Marco Polo and treasure hunt like Indiana Jones
If Jane Goodall-style : Study the NPC mobs in their natural habitat (assuming they've been programmed to have lives)
If PvE guild: Scout as part of a recon team to explore areas ahead of the main group. (Usually unnecessary due weak death penalties.)
If PvP guild: Find and stalk high value targets and pass the info to the others. (Personally, not a fan of PvP)

I'd be willing to try out a full dive kit if its not too pricey and if it doesn't mess me with my mind or body afterwards. Realistically speaking, I wouldn't mind getting a full STEM system if it wasn't too forced into the game. Spell casting, attack commands and even UI interaction with gesture controls might be cool if implemented properly. Like tapping your wrist to bring up the menu, etc.

lol no not a joke, a friend of mine showed it to me the other day. They are wanting to implement Oculus support and are trying to stay true to the show. The only issue I have is that they want to stay true to the show but want to have a 3rd person camera, the Oculus will still be in 1st person.
