If you Installed Oculus Home, please check your Event Viewer

Hey all,

I have had the Rift installed for a few weeks and noticed a few random PC crashes, so I went to the event viewer and the OVRServiceLauncher is throwing an error every 30 seconds.

I have tried a fresh install of Windows 10 and the issue persists.  It doesn't seem to effect my Rift performance, but doesn't instill any trust in the product.  It can't be good to be spamming the Event Viewer with all these errors.  I verified I have all the latest drivers for my hardware, so I have no idea what could be causing this.

Anybody else with a Rift seeing this?

So...What's the error?

It throws this error every 30 seconds:

The description for Event ID 0 from source OVRServiceLauncher cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

[SetProcessGPUPriorityClass] Target process did not respond in time

Yes, I get the same thing in the event viewer about every 30 seconds, but only when the headset is turned off.

Btw: Is there any way to clear the event viewer? I've already 40,000 events in there...

@n3bulaR Thanks for the info.  I didn't see any delete option when I had the various events selected, so I am not sure if you can get rid of them.

Just so you all know, I am not 'liking' your posts because I like you are getting an error.  I just really appreciate you letting me know you have the same issue!  Hopefully it will help get it resolved quicker!

@cybereality Do you happen to have any info on this one?  Are the techs aware of the issue?  Seems pretty common.

I installed Oculus home on 03/28, but am still without Rift.  I had a crash shortly after, and noticed these messages flooding my log.

Oculus should really create a custom log rather than logging to the default "Application" logs.  Not only would this prevent our logs from being flooded until this issue is resolved, but I believe it is also considered a best practice.
