If you Installed Oculus Home, please check your Event Viewer

Hey all,

I have had the Rift installed for a few weeks and noticed a few random PC crashes, so I went to the event viewer and the OVRServiceLauncher is throwing an error every 30 seconds.

I have tried a fresh install of Windows 10 and the issue persists.  It doesn't seem to effect my Rift performance, but doesn't instill any trust in the product.  It can't be good to be spamming the Event Viewer with all these errors.  I verified I have all the latest drivers for my hardware, so I have no idea what could be causing this.

Anybody else with a Rift seeing this?

Finaly !
I have change every Oculus directory i have found, Drivers, and "ntdll" by "Take ownership", and give right to "everybody"

Now, the only logs i have are :
[DisplayManager] Failed to set power mode on NVidia adapter. -175
(when i stop Home)

AppTracker\AppTracker.cpp(100) : Unexpected exit (1971039)
and
[overlays_failed] { message: Failed to initialize libOVR,  }
(When i let OVRService in"Automatic")

No message if i start OVRService manually, except "Nvidia power mode" error

I have only 3 errors in log, not more...

It definitely a problem with Oculus driver and my win10pro 64 OS

/offtopic/

But.. only Home work.... i have always "Oculus not found" when i start something using VR
like "LOST" demo, or "eve valkyrie"

Exact ErrorBox is :
Cannot run c:\Program Files\Oculus\Software\oculus-lost\lost\Binaries\Win64\Lost-Win64-Shipping.exe without an Oculus Rift.Make sure your rift is setup properly and relaunch the app.

Getting a new error spamming the error logs as of 9/20, after the latest Oculus Home update.  It fixed my red haze issue in dark screens although my right screen is still brighter than the left (only noticeable in really dark situations).  Going to start a ticket on the Unity error now.  Here is the error for those interested:

The description for Event ID 0 from source OculusVR cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

21/09 18:31:51.067 {!ERROR!} [Home]

Just because it's "spamming event viewer" doesn't mean it's the root of the problem just fyi.

I have a friend who owns his own computer shop. He's tested my Pc and tells me that this is causing my computer to crash at times. He also reinstalled a fresh version of Windows 10 and tested for hardware faults. I trust he knows what he is talking about since he's worked with computers for over 20 years. These events do occur at times and are usually nothing to be concerned about. When they are spamming every 30 seconds this is not good he tells me and should be fixed to rule out the crashing.

Also, how are you supposed to find other problems if this is spamming every few seconds? I don't want to search through thousands of Oculus errors to find another problem that might be critical.

Then your friend needs to pass his A+ then:)

Event logs are just a text file fill with logs. If it's crashing your computer - then you have other issues. My and and many others pc have not crash, restart, or anything else even though the event viewer is fill with these events. The fact your is tells me something else is going on that YOU need to look into. Sorry you don't understand that, but it's a true thing that needs to be address before you go on spilling wrong information.

Now, you might have storage, a bad sector, or something else going that is being tick off because of the logs files or w/e is going on, but it shouldn't be causing any problems just to have them in your event view.
