If you Installed Oculus Home, please check your Event Viewer

Hey all,

I have had the Rift installed for a few weeks and noticed a few random PC crashes, so I went to the event viewer and the OVRServiceLauncher is throwing an error every 30 seconds.

I have tried a fresh install of Windows 10 and the issue persists.  It doesn't seem to effect my Rift performance, but doesn't instill any trust in the product.  It can't be good to be spamming the Event Viewer with all these errors.  I verified I have all the latest drivers for my hardware, so I have no idea what could be causing this.

Anybody else with a Rift seeing this?

If I had to guess, this is part of oculus' hardware check system to prevent the use of their software on other devices, but they forgot to turn the damn thing off when it's primary app isn't running.  Maybe someone already checked this and mentioned it, but when the hmd is on and connected do the errors stop?  If so, then they're just bogging down people's systems with their idiot code and alienating their user base all to prevent people from using software they've paid for on a what is essentially a different brand of monitor.  Hopefully whoever Oculus hires to replace the guy that thought that was a good business decision will have more sense.  Until then, I think I'll hold off on spending a king's ransom for something that will be outdated in 6 months or less by dual 4k screens with 210+ FOV lol.

Nope, errors keep going even with the HMD on and running.

Do Oculus ever intend fixing this issue? It's been like this for weeks now. They were given log files of the error so why hasn't it been fixed? At-least acknowledge the problem and give use a date when you hope to fix it.

I bought the recommended Fresco Logic controller from the beginning, but have same flood of errors in the Events log.

Has anyone tried running the Intel utility (Fresco Logic USB Driver) with the "repair USB connections" feature?

I recently ran it and it seemed to allow my PC to recognize the various USB hubs and devices better.  There is also a new USB driver on the Fresco Logic site.

Am I missing something here? What does this have to do with the flood of errors in the event viewer? Has this been something that was suggested to stop these errors?

I've made it a habit to always force-close both the OVR processes when not in use... There's not a good reason for them to be running all the time, using up CPU cycles and generating errors, ESPECIALLY if my Rift isn't even plugged in.

Steam, GoG, Origin, Uplay, etc. don't pull these shenanigans with their clients, Oculus should take note.

They need to fix it is what they need to do. I don't want to prat about closing processes ect. This has been like this for a while now and it's not even been mentioned as a fix.
