Impressions from someone with a lazy eye (stereoblindness)

So i got my Rift yesterday and today i set it all up and tried first the desk demo. At first i was stunned that i didnt had double vision (my left bad eye has about 10 diopters). Overall i found it a nice demo, but nothing special. Then i tried Tuscany, and holy shi*... i actually saw everything in amazing 3D. I thought maan if i would have seen spaces like that in school, sports wouldve been so much more fun.

It was amazing... i shouted "oh" and "aah" the whole time. So it seems the rift forces my bad eye to actually work together with my good one.

Next i tried Euro Truck Sim 2, which is pretty impressive... though im not so much a truck driver. 🙂

Not everything worked out of the box and extended mode is really a pain in the a**, but i got everything working, except one thing - when i lean forward or backward, the whole image is moving, not the point of "me". Still trying to find out whats missing.

Overall i love it... its even more impressive then i expected it. Still have to try Elite and other demos.

Oh and btw, no motion sickness at all! There where 2 points where i got dizzy, and i instantly took off the rift, but no motion sickness. Just a bit strain on the eyes.

Can't find the link, but there was a Kickstarter for an Oculus program that aimed to use the Rift to help and retrain the brain to see stereo.

I actually remember reading another thread about someone with a similar condition.

They actually said that it seemed to help with their eye. They noticed their vision get significantly better after using the rift for a while.

Not saying this will happen to you, but there's a possibility 🙂

Its just a matter of time before a free version will pop up
This one is way too expensive for its simple programming .
Jump in the beta of any fast moving game it will force you to use your lazy eye
Take elite dangerous for example
Netherlands Amsterdam Europe Ordered June 9 (processing)

The reports of people with my condition where actually the reason why i bought it (i bought it sealed from someone else then Oculus, didnt want to wait till november).

I tried Elite but its just a graphical mess. Inside the ship its ok, but everything outside is just a pixelparty. I really counted on Elite, as i love this game, but i dont get how anyone can play that way.

Thank you so much for the thread and review, OP.

As someone who suffers from steroblindness/lazy eye, this was really exciting and positive for me to read, as I am facing a hefty wait for my Rift. VR is one of my greatest wishes, and having very similar symptoms as you have described yourself, I had lesser expectations. This thread has made me feel a lot more optimistic about my upcoming first experience.

Cheers.

Thats exactly why i made a seperate thread for it, because i knew there will be some who have similar conditions and wait for their Rift. I myself was so excited and nervous about how it will work... was a massive relief when it actually worked like for someone with stereosight. 🙂

Just wanted to post here saying I am in the same boat, so I'm glad your experience was good. Had a lazy eye as a kid, had surgery to correct but it left me with amblyopia in my left eye. My Rift was ordered Aug 7 so I've got a bit of waiting ahead of me 🙂

I'm also waiting for Diplopia -- got it pre ordered, hoping the beta is out by the time I get my Rift 🙂
