Industry Analyst Says Iribe wasted his dough

http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/zclvhd/pach-attack--who-will-profit-the-most-from-next-gen- About 4 minutes in or so says Oculus is finished, has no real market and capital funding perhaps will not survive for the many years until they do. Again going along with what abrash said earlier, and also what kevin williams seemed to hint at. Perhaps this business cycle is NOT the one, it may take another cycle or 2. Cyberreality, I hope you are mindful of what happened with ONLIVE as posted before. I will say this though, Adam Sessler was a big banker/analyst in his former life, and in 2009 palmer luckey told me he was a nice guy, bright, a personal friend of palmers, and to see him out, so I did so at pax 2009. He gave such a destruction of stereo3D I will remember it til my dying day. Hilarious for me to see him years later do a 540.

If people will read the original thread with Palmer at MTBS3D, http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=120&t=4123 It seems Cyberreality is not so optimistic as he is now. I did tell Palmer I didn't think HMD was ready yet (as martinlandau) but Dome FOV gaming maybe a nearer solution. Kevin Williams did just say I would say that BattleTek' in a VWE capsule is one of the most compelling ever - far more than a HMD Well time will tell....

(PS Cyber, everything I have studied on divorce courts, hot babes like IRIBE is married to don't stay with guys who lose money and make bad bets, and don trump said he had to have 3 buses to bring in all of Ivanka's lawyers, LOL! And that was with a prenup, I wonder if Iribe got a prenup - maybe she bails while she still thinks she can get some cash from him - LOL!) Oculus will be torn up not from anything you or palmer do, or anything Iribe really wants. But a wife compelled by an unfair court system backed by a tyrannical government in divorce laws could destroy the dream - just something to think about!
mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4123 I am looking into that LEEP VR I lack practical 3d knowledge, I have found some good links, but I am not sure if they are the ones you were talking about. Would you mind direct linking me to them?

He'll say blah blah blah like every other analyst does, and some people will eat it up, and some people will roll their eyes.

I would just like to clarify any allusion to comments I have made previously, or that have been taken out of context.

I have no knowledge or ability to gather information on the financial or structural integrity of the operations mentioned nor if any activity other than those reported have taken place.

My point has always been that as a specialist in the digital out-of-home entertainment sector, my feeling is that the application of HMD technology offers great potential in this sector in a sort term application - and is a lot less weighted towards initial investment (expenditure) as needed for a consumer launch.

A factor why Sony has drawn back its investment in their own HMZ T1/T2 HMD platform is the difficulty company analysis found in generating a reliable revenue stream from just supplying the expensive viewing medium, knowing this has to be linked to sophisticated tracking, audio, and firmware support - even before talking about the computer and content.

All this said, Oculus VR has the passion and support of the gamers and hobbyists that could mark an incredible new era in the application of VR to the masses.

@clever,

i was not here for the genesis of this whole thing, so I've no idea of the true backdrop. and when in the matrix ...do as the matrix denizens do. which is the whole ownership thing.

My personal history in such matters is similar. I was the genesis of multiple products and markets, as ideas handed over - that other people ran with. I gave away a good 9-10 things in the past 10-12 years, that each ended up as products and devices that i could have patented.

If this is as you say it is, and Palmer ran with it, it only stands to reason that investment would demand closed doors. Even if it was all yours or all his, and no inventive spit was swapped, investment and partners would still demand closed doors as a minimum. That bears no discussion, as it is a common reality that all who attract investment capital and people's lives and efforts...have to deal with.

Speaking of that sort of thing. The guy who created the basis of understandings of neutrons, didn't give a rats ass.
"banal", (common and obvious) was his comment, he could not be bothered to write it down even when directly asked by the biggest names in physics (Fermi) and consequently his Nobel went to someone else. Sometimes life is like that.

... Geek Master has posted some info around that Abrash is claiming 2000hz display hardware before it is practical for joe six pack.

I stopped reading after this sentence. I will get back to it later, but I wanted to clarify this point. Whatever Micheal Abrash thinks we need before general public ("joe six pack") acceptance is not necessarily what I think. I agree that eliminating both motion blur AND stroboscopic motion ghosting will require the frame-rates Michael Abrash suggested, however, I think that the hardware WE HAVE NOW in the form of the Rift DK is SUFFICIENT for a general public audience (many of whom have already ordered their Rift DK with no intent to develop ANY new content of their own).

Taking my recommended frame-rate quotes out of the "eliminating both blur and ghosts" context potentially distorts its perceived meaning. I agree with the technical requirements, but not necessarily with any implied social acceptance aspects, of which Michael may or may not have been talking about. I have not yet read all of his blog posts.

EDIT: Okay, I went back and read the rest of that post. No comments, other than the future both fascinates and frightens me. I just hope we can establish some solid "three laws" precedent into our AI before they take over during the technological singularity, when Nanny Bots will be our masters, and "education" (or re-education) will be carefully orchestrated much more masterfully than today.

There IS a way around the frame rate issue, Geek. I've done that once already.

I just need a rift to check and see what can be done, how much the issue may be alleviated.

Everything I have read from Abrash suggested to me that he is talking about where we need to go with VR, not that the journey is futile or should not be started here, but that we have many problems to overcome in order to iron it out.

Just judging reactions by both gamers and non-gamers to the DK1 and my own personal use, I would say there is no way that a commercial version of the Rift would not be viable at the price of a decent monitor. It will not replace today's flat screen gaming, but there's a lot of room for more entertainment. Who is not welcome to more?

BTW even on Pachters Twitter page he states he is "Occassionally Right". He even changed his estimates of what the PS4 and XBOXONE would cost several times in the last few months. He makes a rough guess. Take it how you want.

Abrash has spoken highly of the Rift, knowing full well the limitations. He's got a eye on the perfect implementation, for certain, but knows full well that current technology has to build in that direction. He and his team have been tackling VR and AR for a spell, which is a wonderful thing.

FYI, a DLP running at 900hz, 300hz per color of RGB, will still have significant rainbows when the head and eye is turned at 'normal' speeds..

been around for as long as their have been these new fangled things called video/computer games. Been playing them since day one, yeah I had an original Pong, was a fortune back then too, you know why people pay a fortune for a new piece of tech? because it allows them to experience something brand new, to be entertained in an entirely new way. No other piece of tech out there has offered this in decades, now all of a sudden the Oculus does.

Heck, Consumers actually pay for slight hardware upgrades or because they add case colors, you really think people wont flock to something earth shattering like the Oculus once it becomes available to the public? I'm thinking the Oculus is going to be the tech equivalent to Cabbage patch dolls ( yeah Im old enough to remember parents fighting over these dolls, yeah actually fighting)

ANyway when was the last piece of tech people all where astonished by, the Wii made some people go, oh that looks like fun, and sold a gazzilion units, This when showed to people will make them go, OH my god, then they will ask how much, and if you can say, 300-500 bucks, they will be out the door to try to go buy one.

The Oculus is the future of this industry, anyone who says otherwise is just a fool.
