I'm still on the fence about the Facebook thing, but this changes everything. I've been waiting for confirmation that Carmack is still 100% on board before making any rash decisions about where to invest my future time, but this puts those thoughts to rest.
Right now I am in awe, shock and considerably more optimistic about the future than I was this morning.
I pretty much learned graphics programming from Abrash's columns in Dr Dobbs, which I managed to acquire on CD-ROM, back in the early 90s, before I had a modem and information was scarce. My copy of Zen of Code Optimization still has pride of place on my bookshelf next to Knuth and a few other classics.
Until about 30 minutes ago I thought the FB deal was the biggest surprise I was going to get this year.
Let this be a lesson in PR. If you're going to announce something that makes your entire userbase hate you, make sure you have Michael m**f**ing Abrash in your pocket to announce a couple of days later. The canary in the coalmine comment was spot on.
Wow....the absolute powerhouse that OculusVR is becoming in such a short amount of time is scary. They're snatching up the most talented minds in the business... :shock:
Awesome news indeed...and just the sort of news many in this community expected and predicted. Best of all can the majority of us sing a quick verse of Kumbya and get back to work without all this contentiousness? Congrats Future Of VR...you're looking better every day.
Wonder how many people regret cancel their pre-order now 😄 It amazes me how shortsighted and narrowminded people can be sometimes especially on the internet. It`s like a mob out of controll lol now they are pretty much like oh ok i really made an ass out of my self didn`t i? 🙂

lmfao! A select few of us can take comfort in the fact that we remained calm, took in the information, analyzed it, and spoke intelligently about the acquisition. The others? Probably wishing they could delete their old posts. 🙂
