Is Amazon Going to Backorder Rifts this Friday?

I am scheduled to receive my Pre-order sometime after the end of May ( #32), so I am considering spinning the wheel on Friday and trying to order from Amazon (like thousands of others, obviously).  This is what they say on Amazon about the Rift.

Note on Availability:
Orders from Amazon.com will open at 9:00am PDT on May 6, 2016. Due to expected high customer demand, orders may not ship immediately. Orders will be fulfilled in the order in which they are received.

Is this saying that they will complete my order, and maybe charge me, without actually having the stock on hand to fulfill?  Amazon usually doesn't work like that.  They will specify what the time frame is if they don't have it in stock.  However, after what happened at the original pre-order from Oculus, I don't imagine I should hesitate and read the terms carefully, or I will once again get pushed back to some distant place in line.

I would be happy to get a Rift as soon as possible, but I am not going to be put on another indefinite backorder wait list.  One is enough.  Anybody have a thought on what would be the best strategy?  I don't feel like I'm jumping in line since I have no clue where I am in line anyway, and it's every man for himself at this point, so no hate please.

I suspect that whatever stock the retailers have is going to be snapped up in the first minute, and then it'll be a back-order situation just like the direct pre-orders.

I don't know what their policies will be re: charging at order time--hopefully they wouldn't charge until they ship, in which case you can keep both orders open until something moves, then cancel the other.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

And then the wave of whining about Best Buy orders being delivered before the Oculus pre-orders will be replaced with whining about Amazon orders...

Well, Oculus clearly showed us early adopters the finger, might aswell make the most of it. Does anybody know, if I will be able to buy a Rift from Amazon, living in europe (germany)?

Of course, how can they back order a Rift for anyone when we were told that only a few units would be sent to retail outlets until the back orders were caught up which might not be until August?

I guess I kind of got lucky since my work shift got changed for Friday so I won't be around to participate in the inevitable fiasco of retail Rift day.

Good luck to whoever is going to give it a shot.

Amazon is not very good at releases on limited quantity items, stay posted, on anything ive ever tried to nab, they've leaked the order page out somewhere from someone and they are literally already sold out when the page opens up.
