Is Oculus Studio killing the Market?

We are small developers of VR content, as you could imagine, it's a risky move.
Congratulation on winning Sundance again this year (Dear Angelica), but we are scared when we see that you produce
great quality content and distribute it for free.
If your mission is to promote development of content, you are doing a really bad job...
You have unlimited budget and are not require to build profit, but any others studio must...
If you would just sell your experience for a few bucks (like 3$), it would set the bar of payment for quality content, and new opportunity can arise for developers in hope of making a living out of producing quality content.
But right now, the best content is free... How can a industry be build? How can studio survive?

Best regards

I suppose the idea is that if you are going to charge someone for something, then it should probably be better than the free stuff? I'm not sure that I see the fault in setting a baseline.

Besides, Dear Angelica was just a free experience. There are plenty of VR Software Titles of high quality that charge money: Chronos, Technolust, Albino Lullaby, Arizona Sunshine, Super Hot, Eve Valkyrie, Elite Dangerous.

People are buying, playing, and enjoying the paid stuff. Arizona Sunshine and Onward are probably the two most popular paid VR titles on the market right now.

Why not use the paid content as your baseline instead of the free Oculus Studios contributions?

They have so much free content because they want people to buy the tech, this is very new and people will demo it to their friends.  Many of my friends wanted to get this as soon as they tried it.  It's expensive so most of them simply can't pay for it.  But I have at least 1 friend that bought it and my brother bought it based on the demo they tried on my machine.  My brother works in the tech industry and his company is now considering developing for VR.   As a developer your content should dictate the price.  There are plenty of games/apps that people pay for.  The best content I have for my rift was all paid for.  So no I don't think it hurts VR, I think it helps it.  At least 2 sales were gained from me alone.  I can only imagine how many others have purchased based off of demoing the rift and many of those demos are the free apps from Oculus.

There is plenty of room for apps that deliver experiences.  You can't expect someone to replay the same experience over and over again.  That would be boring.

No we're not. But we are building an experience, it cost us hundred of thousand (as it probably cost Oculus Studio to build theirs), so we will need a revenue or we die. So we cannot afford to give it for free 😞
How can we compete free pricetag?

I totally agree that some low quality project can be free, but if the 'best experience' is free, than nobody will be able to afford building quality experience (but Oculus Story).. And everything else will be crap..

The Best Experiences are not free.

Your not competing.
If anything, people will try the free experiences and want more (perhaps ylur first title should be free to intice people in and trust your product is quality). If there is one of equal or greater quality to the free ones then I'm sure people will pay for them.

I know I would.

Dear Angelica, winner of Sundance, is free. I'm talking as an investor here. I know, because I speak with others investors, and right now, because the best one is free, it become extremely scary. Not everyone is under the 'patronage' of Oculus.. We need to show that they are revenue at the others side of such a high risk investment.
