Is a Nvidia 3DVision2 Monitor worth it until CV1? Advice plz

Hi guys I am gaming on a 3D TV and I hate it, therefore I have been gaming in 2D for more than a year now. I have the DK2 but that is not obviously ready for online AAA gaming...I am dying on the wait until CV1 is released and am very bored with flat screen gaming.

Is buying a 3D Vision2 monitor still worth it? Seeing as though new technologies are coming out including 4K TVs and HDMI 2.0, is buying a 3D Vision monitor now too short sighted? Should I wait for anything else?

I really want something to tide me over until CV1 and ease the wait. I am looking at buying the ASUS VG278HE monitoir. any advice please....I really want a change and I do not know when VR Direct will be released or if it will even be playable in a competitive multiplayer environment the way a 3d vision monitor can.

I had 3d vision 1

I have 3d vision 2

I have dk2

I never use 3d vision really at all

back in 3d vision 1 seeing 3D on L4D 1 was amazing but now it gets old

its kind of the feeling I had where holy I'm flying a plane in real life but then after a while it gets boring

but obviously to some they use it all the time so to them its worth it

that person might be you but if you would get it for the hype alone it's not worth

but if you're getting it for better insight and like 3d much over 2d then its worth

only problem is like everything is dimmer because its wearing sunglasses so it kind of looks bad

You mean crosstalk?

I personally prefer more crosstalk but lightboost and brightness/contrast almost all the way up (in monitor settings), so I can achieve really vibrant colors.
But if I play a level that has scenes, where the crosstalk is "painful" then I lower the brightness.

I personally don't play horror games (night scenes) so I yet have to see my first game where 3D Vision 2 crosstalk is a game-breaker.

About BF4 - I didn't look for it, so I might have missed it, but I understand what you're talking about. Map is diplayed with this error. Best just go check a proper 3D game, instead of BF4. g.

Yes, I totally am enjoying my monitor now. I love it, it has made gaming new to me again! BF4 is running in compatibility mode, but it still looks good and my GTX970 can do it in Ultra at 40 - 60fps...now I know what it means when people say Smooth as BUTTER!! frikkn amazing

Ron, how do I increase the lighboost further>? I have only been using it on default. How do i find the settings for lightboost? Is it in bios or something? Thanks guys.

I see you wrote a topic on Nvidia's forum. I shouldn't post the same "quick guide" here, then, since I just wrote it there in the thread sitting very closely to yours. Oh well 🙂

About the lightboost - you just go to your monitor settings.
When 3D mode is on, your monitor will block most of the settings, and you'll just have lightboost and contrast settings there.
Lightboost is not equal to brightness, but I won't get into details, since it's well explained here:
http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion-blur/10vs50vs100/

It's the time the backlight stays on. The lower the value, the better the motion quality. But even at 100% it's still far, far away from any non-LP mode (low persistence), so you might tune it for your exact needs (game/scene/level).

PS. I have my old friend in Canada. I ask him to ask his friends in Ubisoft Montreal for 3D Vision emitter. Maybe some of his fellow workers do have some, got bored, and would agree to sell it to you. The chances are slim though, since most of them play on consoles.
Not an Oculus hater, but not a fan anymore. Still lots of respect for the team-Carmack, Abrash. Oculus is driven by big corporation principles now. That brings painful effects already, more to come in the future. This is not the Oculus I once cheered for.

Just quick update... After weeks of searching and literally tearing my apt apart and opening every box in storage I finally found my 3D vision emitter!!! It had fallen down behind the desk and was dangling in a clump of wires behind my Sub woofer. *facepalm* I only found it as was rewiring everything sound wise for my new Soundblaster Z card I got on Black Friday sale for $70 and free shipping. 🙂 No more crappy onboard for me! I have used onboard for years without issue, but this new board has the worst sound ever. Heck my sub woofer never even makes a noise anymore with it and all sounds sound really muddy. So bought first sound card in about 20 years. lol Also picked up a nice Sennheiser HD 598 for 70% off to go with the new card to replace my aging G930's which don't play well with Win 8 and higher.
