I was a pre-order, but I didn't preorder until very late in the process. I had a shipping date estimate of late July.
I went into our local best buy to demo one of their units, and they said they just received more stock. The employee was very reluctant to give info about number of stock etc, but after some pressure - he told me that they had sold a few of these a week since the May initial distribution.
So, I had no plans of getting my rift today, but I lucked out by asking if they had stock. They shouldn't have had stock, but they have been selling and receiving new units to sell at this location ever since the first batch they received.
I thought this might be helpful to people who thought it was impossible to get one at retailers if they missed out on the first batch. If you live in a city that has a Best Buy demo station, I encourage you to visit them in person and ask them about their stock or when they get orders etc. It absolutely is not a case of "only one batch per store sent one time". They have been receiving and selling out of rifts ever since the first batch arrived.
I am beyond thrilled with the unit so far - and I just wanted to share the info. Had I not randomly went to do the demo today, I would be at home feverishly checking my order status.

I'm proud of having been patient, resisting the temptation of best buy and waiting for my preorder to arrive, and this tuesday i'll receive my preorder rift...
And the fact the F@ç§ing best buy don't exist in italy didn't influenced my final decision u.u
As the title implied, it is not about rubbing it in or wagging a finger in anyone's face. I had given up on retailers having stock based on the stories and what not. I was patiently waiting at home for my pre order - but on a whim went to a demo and asked. I was pleasantly shocked.
The point was that best buy had stock that was sitting there waiting to be bought that some other pre order customer could get there hands on. I was sharing the information, and that store reps will only tell you about the stock in person. You cant purchase it online etc, but if you are in a city with a demo station- you might just get lucky
Got mine yesterday at Best Buy lees summit Mo. Canceled preorder, this thing is amazing. My wife is the most cynical person I know when it comes to tech stuff and especially games, I let her try Lucky's tale and she said it made her want to cry because it is so amazing. Edit: That Best Buy had 2 more in stock I believe.
