Just ordered a Pimax 8KX (Some CES Reviews)

It has been getting good feedback from CES so I ordered the PIMAX 8KX right away so I can report back here to you guys as soon as I get it. Probably around March/April. Luckily by ditching all my backer rewards (I already have basestation and Valve controllers) I got mine for $609 (RRP is $1299). Hopefully I can avoid import taxes.

Long Live VR!

I love my Rift S too, the head strap is awesome.

Although I have a horrible feeling that I might have lost mine. I've been staying at my Mum's for a couple of weeks and meant to take my PC and Rift S with me.

When we got to my Mum's my Rift S wasn't in the boot. I'm REALLY hoping that I didn't leave it on my doorstep. I can't remember leaving it down there so hopefully it's still sitting on my bed!!!!

If I have lost it I'm not sure if I'm going to get another Rift S or a Quest to replace it.

Good luck to you. I feel the same about the rift s. For me it was a major update especially after adding index like grips and the sony mantis audio headphone.

Oops, that's not good, hope it's waiting for you when you get home!

Having both S and Quest, I've been using both but very differently, the Quest goes with me when I'm away form home and also for movie viewing or browsing when on the sofa or in bed and having trouble getting to sleep, it's great for that and for having fun with friends and family.

I doubt I'll ever use it for PC VR while I have the S though. It's not comfortable enough for me to use it for long gaming sessions although when resting my head on the back of the sofa or on a pillow, the Quest is fine, even for a 2 hour movie and the S just no good for those situations. Maybe the comfort is something you get used to after a time but as you probably know, you just forget you're wearing the S during gaming.

I also prefer the colours of the LCD screen, they seem to me to be a little bit more natural, less fluorescent than the OLED, although that's also something that you probably get used to. ED probably looks better in the Quest with the better blacks.

I'm really interested to know how the Pimax feels for a 1 or 2 hour plus session.

Think I'll get another Rift S then, assuming that I didn't just leave it on my bed.

I hope I left it on my bed. 😮

@snowdog What the Lord giveth (PPI rebate) the Lord taketh away (someone taking (not nicking) your Rift S) cos you left it on the doorstep and they thought it was just stuff you were throwing out.

Happened to me before when I was painting window frames on my house one summer. Left new looking trainers on the doorstep and they walked...

When you left you probably locked your door? Rift-S has a lot of value to you, let's hope you would have noticed it if it was standing on your doorstep... When do you return home and will find out?

My particular CV1 meant I was underwhelmed by OLED’s from day 1. I had terrible colour banding and yellow and magenta block artifacting in dark areas of the screen which Spud on or off didnt resolve and true black was a trade off against black smear. So OLED for VR never loved up to the hype for me.

Conversely, LCD never lived down to the criticisms for me. Both the Rift S and HP Reverb LCD screens deliver colours, that like you, I prefer to OLED and think look more realistic compared to the lurid over saturated colours of OLED. I also have zero problem with LCD blacks. If there is anything bright on screen the brains relative contrast ratio perception means that the blacks look deep black. Only when the screen is nearly completely dark or there is only a candle lighting the VR game or Movie scene do the blacks look grey. Even in Elite Dangerous, space looks deep black to me in the Rift S or Reverb.

It was nicked because I left it next to my packed bag. Pretty obvious that it wasn't thrown out.

Will find out in a couple of hours cos I'm on my way back to London now. Hopefully it's going to be sitting on my bed when I get in.

Not a big deal if I have had it nicked because I'm getting that PPI refund which should take care of it.

If someone has nicked it then it was done way before I locked the door.

My bag was on the doorstep. If I brought my Rift S down I would have put it next to the bag then gone back upstairs to get my cat in her box. When I brought my puss down it wasn't there, I picked up my bag and popped it into the boot and then put my puss in the back seat.

It was then that my Mum noticed that I had forgotten the cat's litter box which I went upstairs to get. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed my Rift S sitting on my bed at that point but hopefully I just missed it.

Hope you find it - and hope you have some insurance to cover it otherwise. Btw just found out that our home contents insurance covered my sons broken glasses - I was just about to pay like £250 for new ones (someone ran into him at school and the glasses broke), but the insurance pays everything about £125. Looking back, I might have paid for several items without knowing some of them were covered by the home contents insurance, sigh - well, just a hint if it's relevant 😉
