Just ordered a Pimax 8KX (Some CES Reviews)

It has been getting good feedback from CES so I ordered the PIMAX 8KX right away so I can report back here to you guys as soon as I get it. Probably around March/April. Luckily by ditching all my backer rewards (I already have basestation and Valve controllers) I got mine for $609 (RRP is $1299). Hopefully I can avoid import taxes.

Long Live VR!

Sweviver (Martin) gets to test the 8KX on his YouTube channel, but Sebastian can't - guess that's fair, lol - but nonetheless a nice video - completely unbiased and free from any conflicts of interest  😉

The headset really interests me but I didn't get past the 'I don't expect you to believe me' statement, on that vid!
@Shadowmask72 I'll wait for your review.

I think 2k per eye is about as good as your going to get for VR until eye tracking arrives. HP Reverb is close to looking like a 1080p monitor when in VR. I think you will need a Geforce 3080ti or eye tracking to get the best experience out of 4k per eye.

I think that's spot on with the 3080Ti. I'm nowhere from getting just barely acceptable performance using Index in Lone Echo, Stormland and Asgard's Wrath, and Swevivier does not even mention the blurry TAA lcd problem - that tells me his experience in especially Asgard's Wrath (he used the High setting, TAA is only disabled using Low) probably will not match my experience. TAA in Lone Echo, Asgard's Wrath and Stormland is totally horrible using lcd hmds like Index - not sure it's a great thing for Sweviver to focus on these games for 8KX. If I was Sweviver I'd focus on Boneworks, S&S and maybe Pistol Whip where you in fact may get truly awesome image quality and performance from the 8KX. Stormland, Asgard's Wrath and Lone Echo were all made for CV1 (oled) and all look totally awesome using TAA + CV1, I really wouldn't focus on these games trying to sell 8KX (lcd).

The PiTool caught my interest - especially if the performance is much better than Revive. Now I don't have a problem using Revive - often I get better performance Reviving the Oculus version than buying the same game on Steam - that's pretty awesome Revive results. But I'd love to know if PiTool really provides better performance than Revive - I'm so much looking forward to see extensive benchmarks "PiTool vs. Revive" in @Shadowmask72 8KX review 😉

about that video, it is interesting that their "native" oculus support apparently performs way better than ReVive.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

I'll trust that info when I see objective benchmarks. Maybe it's already been done? I have not been looking much into PiTool before.
Still a 2080 Ti can't even run Lone Echo CV1 ss 2.0 TAA in solid 90 fps - good luck with 8KX no matter how good PiTool may be 😉
Personally I prefer Lone Echo reviews/opinions from persons who know how the game looks using the hmd it was designed for - otherwise you may have no idea how to really evaluate image quality. Like persons Reviving Asgard's Wrath and thinking it looks great using the Index... And it might if you have no clue about image quality using an oled display and TAA. Also Defector using lcd hmd :#  Pretty sure Defector is soaked in TAA too - a blurry mess on the Index, but looks great using CV1. Praising image quality with lcd hmds using games designed for oled + TAA is a red flag to me.
