Laptop for CV1?

OK, right off the bat, this thread is not about laptop vs. desktop. Of course, a desktop will always get you the most bang for the buck. I have a desktop that I have built, it rocks, I love it.

This thread is specifically about which laptops will actually support CV1. Now that there are a number out there with desktop grade 980s in them, I'd like to know if any of these would have the chops to run a CV1? I wouldn't say money is exactly no object, but I could certainly go to rather high numbers if necessary, and so would like to know if anything on the market within an unsilly price range could do it.

Many thanks for your help

Don't quote me, but I remember reading that no mobile GPUs are supported right now, including the 980M.

I saw one of the laptops with a desktop 980 advertised as having optimus, so even that one probably doesn't work. Desktop gpu may not be enough if optimus is still there.

Because it would be considered "favoritism" for the laptops that used generic ways to make their hardware. The one's not supported would get so much heat that there could be some legal issues going on. Easiest way is just to say Not supported even though some will work and some won't. It could be like playing craps where you don't know what you have will work.

Aha!! So it's "favoritism".
Here I was thinking it was based on "technical." issues.

I would proceed with caution, as the vast majority of laptops are dead in the water. I'm interested to see what the deal is with the desktop GTX 980 notebooks, as those have a chance of working (provided Optimus is out of the picture). I'll try to get someone here to test them officially but, if not, I'm sure people in the community will figure out which ones are good.

I have been doing more research on this, and it does seem like the laptops that come with a Desktop 980 might have the best chance. I am in the market for a new gaming laptop, so it is a question of spending the extra to get one that will also power the DK2/CV1. The best price I have found for a 980 laptop (desktop 980) is from pcspecialist in the UK.

This model starts at £1600, although I would likely bump up a few elements, certainly the RAM, maybe the processor. Looks like you could get a pretty decent one of these, and still have a little change from £2000.

I'd love to hear people's thoughts. Also, has anyone tried the DK2 on a "desktop-980" containing laptop?
