With all the new features on the quest, openxr does not conviene enough to release new versions to keep up. There is just a far larger incentive to use ovr rather than wait 2 years for openxr to support it. I use basic hmd and motion controller from openxr but ovr has transitioned to using that as well so it isn't like there is any other option. I love openxr but it needs to get up and get going already.
Also the controllers have all had the SAME GRIP since the rift s and the rift's grip is only slightly different so I only make 1 grip profile for 5 different headsets.
I hate exclusive platform games I really do but when the hardware side of things are so incompatible and wonky it makes it hard to want to develop both a pcvr version and a quest version when quest just freaking works.

I merged both identical threads together.
Is one of these real? Both are copy/pastes of a reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/18n5h3z/learning_vr_game_dev_and_i_finally_understa...
Anyway, I'll take PCVR dev with Oculus SDK for Rifts over Quest any day. The only thing I prefer about Quests compared to Rifts for development is the Quest 2 & 3 headstrap means I can hold the headset to my face for quick tests without putting it fully on.
