Let's Talk About Augments

Augments are the interactive spatially aware virtual objects that you'll be able to place around your space. I've just been calling them interactive objects so it's good to know they've got a name!

For those of us who used to enjoy customizing our Oculus Homes back in the day, with weird & wonderful stuff, augments should be more fun.

So, which ones are you looking forward to using and do you have an idea for what would be good augment?

13700K, RTX 4070 Ti, Asus ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming, Corsair H150i Capellix, 64GB Corsair Vengence DDR5, Corsair 5000D Airflow, 4TB Samsung 870 , 2TB Samsung 990 Pro x 2, DK2, CV1, Rift-S, Quest, 2, 3, Pro, Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (10.0.26100)

I must say when the augments were demonstrated at connect it actually got me quite excited for AR. Very much looking forward to seeing what augments we get at launch, the portal looking ones that you stick on the wall like a painting looked cool.

Hopefully they'll build upon it and give out special augments for different games, similar to what SteamVR did with the unlockable items (I don't think they ever added to the original lot)

Quest 2, Quest 3, PCVR, Meta Wayfarer

Yeah the portals look like a natural fit for AR having gotten so used to seeing them everywhere in Horizon worlds.

I hope they do something simple to mimic older tech... a proper LP collection visually recreated from your digital music, with a working record deck, something similar for games... just a shelf with boxes on, like we used to have in Home but the boxes work as loaders, would make a retro alternative to portals.

I hope that more than just one room can be scanned and stored, so that you can move around, from your living room to kitchen seamlessly for example.

That would be great ....even more if also PCVR games could be placed and I don't have to go in the white void first if I want to start a pc game.

Exactly, we need a single AR space for launching standalone and PCVR games, it might be more tricky than we think... handing off to the PC from android but as that's basically what the link button on the menu does, it must be possible and would make for a great unified experience.

Do we know when we'll get these?  Am I just missing them somehow?

I thought we'd have them at launch - maybe not - did they give a date?

Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

So there aren't any right now? nothing to place in your room... except the portals I assume?

That's what I'm saying - I don't see anywhere to add portals unless it's hidden somewhere?
Hopefully next update.

Yes hopefully, I'm really looking forward to that.....

......I mean, when I finally get the Quest 3🤣

mmm I thought portals would at least be there, unless as you say @Hiro_Protag0nist they're a bit hidden in the menu... all the people who were sent a Quest 3 a week early for review were demoing them but I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean they weren't pre-installed on those particular devices.
