Let's talk about Rift price

We don't know the price of the Rift, so let's speculate a little bit.
The RIFT - $350-450
Oculus Touch - $120-170
Additional Oculus IR Camera for Oculus Touch - $80-110
What do we have here.. $350(450) Rift + $120(170) Oculus Touch + $80(110) Oculus IR Camera =
$550(Minimal) and $730(Maximum) price for complete bundle.
So, OculusVR selling controllers separetily to make the Rift price 350-450, as they promised at Kickstarter? But if you want full expirience, you need controllers and one more IR camera. And in total you must pay at least $550 ($730)..
Don't you think it's unfair?
The Vive price will be higher then the Rift ($500-700). But in the box you have 2 lighthouse stations and 2 wireless controllers. So it's almost the same price, Rift complete bundle about $550-750 and Vive about $600-800..
The conclusion here: HTC/Valve is more open and fair with us, than OculusVR.

P.s. This is very RAW numbers.

One thing that will always be for sure is that whatever you guys pay in dollars, we'll pay in pounds in the UK, so from that point of view you'll be better off.

this may be true (it usually is 😞 ) but with DK1 and DK2 oculus have treated us in Blighty very fairly imo.

iirc inc delivery and taxes my DK2 cost me £272

it has gone up a little now (I assume I have not checked TBH) due to the $ being a bit stronger than it was back last june.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

Where did those numbers come from? Do you have insider info?
It kinda sounds like you just gave us random numbers.

There are so many contradicting clues about the price, that I think it's pointless to even bother guessing.

Bravo, I agree!

We are actually going to rename the DK2 to the PDBTIYANAD2 (please don't buy this if you are not a developer 2). -cybereality

Hmm dunno where you heard that. Here at 13:37 https://youtu.be/leg2gS6ShZw?t=13m37s

The more important part is that you kind of forget about it, which they mention here. People seem to be saying the same with the CV1 demo.

Yes, sorry. I forget about this part. But Norm said: I think it's wider than Crecent bay.

Nothing wrong with speculation and guessing, it can be fun. But you have just managed to troll yourself. You made up some numbers and then got angry about them.

P.S.: How couldn't people using Vive see any black borders? Would this not only be possible with 180 degrees field of view? There has to be some kind of limitation as well.

I didn't noticed any black borders in DK1, in DK2 I did. 100 vs 110 FOV, 10 degree matters a lot..

There is nothing from early Vive use to suggest a really difference in FOV. I heard the google effect for Vive seemed more rounded but its still there. Maybe just not as a black border. A lot of that will depend on the head set adjustment options and how well it can accommodate face size and glasses.

If the Vive HMD design is pretty close to the DK, then FOV is a likely to be about the same because they are using the same screen configuration and thus likely very similar lenses.

Neither company has demonstrated enough HMD differentiation to drive me to buy one over the other based only on the headset.

The only one up the Vive ever had was being first to the table with rock solid tracking, and demo software for a solution to room level gaming.

I recall seeing that now. Oval versus more a binocular rounded edge on Vive.

That might make sense if the HTC HMD has its lenses and screens slightly farther apart increasing the FOV a bit but maybe giving up a bit of stereo overlap. The take away I get from this is that there is not a significant difference once you are focused on a game. The FOV isn't big enough to make it more immersive.
