Looking for CPU upgrade suggestions

I'm currently running an AMD FX-6300 6 core 4118 Mhz CPU.
With AMD R9 290X Gpu.

This was fine with the DK2 but it's struggling with the 90fps for CV1.
I can get the 90fps but it stutters a little and drops quite low in gfx intense areas.
I'm pretty sure it's due to cpu bottle necking.

I
know the recommended cpu is an i5-4950 but was wanting some input from
you all as to something that would future proof me a little more.

I will have to upgrade my motherboard as well as mine has the old AM3 socket.
Was thinking about a Gigabyte GA-Z170x gaming 5 board but can't decide on a suitable CPU.

Any help here would be appreciated.

I could have gone for the 1080 but would have added another £200 to the price which I really couldn't justify atm.

Maybe next year I'll drop in a 1080 ti 😉

UK prices are heart stopping. The RRP for that rig was £1,849.95 There's a 35% knock down on what I paid!

I'm running a Intel Core i7-5930K Haswell-E 6-Core with a MSI GTX 980 GAMING 4G and G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series 32GB (4 x 8GB)  DDR4 SDRAM 2400 and it is working pretty good for me.

Well that's a far cry from the OP's AMD FX CPU and 290(x?) GPU.

New rig is now set up with one game installed.
Green lights across the board for the Rift set up.

Tried War Thunder first as this was the game that really showed up the judder for me on the last rig.

Maxed the game settings and dropped straight into an air domination battle. 30+ beautifully rendered planes all dog fighting in close proximity, low level over a heavy tree covered map. A lot of bullets, explosions, smoke and fire.
Not once did it drop a frame below 90fps (there is an in game counter display that shows in the rift) and perfectly smooth tracking.

Omg it looked and felt amazing. Everything just looked so solid and real. My stomach back flipped on take off in test flight for the first time since I first tried the game on the DK2. Not from sim sickness, purely because it looked so real.
This really has taken it to the next level.

Money well spent!
Downloading Elite Dangerous next.
