Many reviewers don't know what they're talking about

One comment that's typical is VR doesn't have enough content to be worth it right now even if the hardware is good. They are a bunch of morons. The Oculus Rift coming out is similar to a new console coming out there aren't going to be as many games or content at first. I'm waiting to receive my rift at the end of the month but I closely keep up with what is going on and I can tell you that it's very comparable to a new console and as far as I can see there's plenty to do & what the reviewers don't mention is by the time you finish a lot of what you want to do there is going to be a whole bunch of new things that are going to come out and it's going to keep building. I call those reviewers VR haters in many cases when they are giving a bad review these people just don't like vr. The first game consoles that came out if you compare them with what there is now well there's no comparison.now they are many light years better. As good as I believe they are is now it isn't even going to compare with what is going to happen in just a few years or when the next headset comes out. When I hear someone say I'd rather play on a monitor that is because that person doesn't like VR. how can you compare playing on a monitor with being in the game. I have VR gear the Innovative model the very first one which is not anywhere near as good As the cv1. And even with its overheating & problems I loved it much more than playing a video game on a monitor. I have been waiting for this all my life I can't wait to get my delivery!

But it's largely true. I spend most of my VR time in H3VR, Holopoint, Project Cars, and Syrim. Which is plenty to keep me busy right now, but there are probably only a dozen VR-capable games right now that are really worth playing. And some of those are Vive-only until Touch comes out, and some are Rift-only.

That'll improve a lot over the next six months, but we're still in the early adopter stage right now.

Most tech reviewers don't actually know what they're talking about. Tech journalism in general is a joke, but they are consistent. If I recall correctly they said similar things when the PS4 and Xbox One came out. Both consoles had very lackluster launch titles. I do think it's a bit more exaggerated with the Rift because unlike the consoles VR headsets don't have the track record of selling well.

I don't agree that every game will move to VR. I do think there are games and game types that don't work well in VR and will still be played on flat displays. VR should augment, not replace, current gaming in my opinion.

I've got far more then enough to play and do on my Rift right now. Granted - I am a full grown adult with a full time job and a family, I'm lucky to get 1-3 hours in the Rift a night. If I were back in grade school with nothing else to do, i'd probably have finished most of my games by now (Used to knockout 80+ hours in the good Final Fantasy games easily back in those days... Not so much now).

I agree, there is already a nice variety of existing content - and new things are coming out each week.

People figure out a narrative and stick with it no matter the facts and for many outside VR, lack of content is the VR narrative, which is 100% false.

Completely agree. A vast majority of "online reviewers" are trying too hard to give the appearance of "insightful speaker" in the hopes of gaining some semblance of notoriety.

I read plenty of VR reviews before I chose my Rift (because research is important), and I've read just as many after (because arguing on the Internet is fun). What I can say is that the Tom's Hardware review of VR Devices is by far the best; but even that has received criticism:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/vive-rift-playstation-vr-comparison,4513.html

Granted, the Tom's Hardware review feels much longer than necessary. In truth, all that is needed is a few short sentences to sum things up, similar to what Something Awful did:
http://www.somethingawful.com/video-game-article/virtual-reality-headset/

 "Oculus Rift:
Incredible four directional movement tracking. This bad boy will follow your head's movements so long as your head is going left, right, up, or up-left.

Patented "ChillBlast" technology keeps the surface of your eyeballs at a consistently crisp 2 degrees celsius.

Thanks to John Carmack's involvement, the headset makes it possible for blind people to see and it also renders all faces as Doom Guy.

Vive:
Tracks your physical movements across a fifteen foot by fifteen foot grid of free space, which we all have in our homes. Cutting-edge sensors will even follow you as you bump into coffee table or stumble through an open window, modeling your fall and landing with an advanced ragdoll physics system.

Comes with an exclusive tech demo. This thrilling experience is set in a fantastical sci-fi world where Valve has customer support.

Full Steam curator/reviewer integration. Dire opinions and banal proclamations from insufferable blowhards like Total Biscuit will now be beamed directly into your eye, with no way to disable them!"

That's all simple, direct, entertaining, and tells you all you need to know without drudging through long-winded spreadsheet analysis and multiple forum wars.

If I had to pick one example of a Reviewer who knows just WTF they are talking about, and has a great way of expressing it, it would be this movie review of Ong Bak 2 from Cracked.com:
http://www.cracked.com/blog/ong-bak-2-action-porn-evolved/

"In 2003, Tony Jaa made Ong Bak and changed the face of action porn forever. It was the kind of movie where a guy would go looking for his village's missing statue head and accidentally walk through an underground martial arts tournament and then accidentally win it. In one scene, he dumped his leg in oil, lit it on fire, did a 360 off a truck and kicked a guy with it. For you ladies that don't know anything about finishing moves, that's like killing a guy so hard that four of his Facebook posts disappear."
