Meta Quest 2: Not What I Expected

I bought a Meta Quest 2 from FB Marketplace yesterday and haven't made it through the initial setup, because no matter what I try doing, the right controller will not connect. The app lets me know that it's been paired, but my headset wont register that its there. I've spent well over 16 hrs trying to find a fix, but to no avail. When you go to look up prices for a replacement controller, even pre-owned are absolutely, ridiculously high! I dont have the kind of money laying around for something that shouldnt be more expensive than a ps5 controller.

All in all, I wish I had never bought it. Absolute worst experience ever!!!!!

Hi there!

We see that you are having trouble setting up your Meta Quest 2 because your right controller is malfunctioning. Let's see if we can help you complete the setup so you can get started exploring the Metaverse with your headset.

The following steps might be useful in addressing this issue:

  • Check the battery: Ensure the right controller has batteries installed, and they are correctly positioned.
  • Replace batteries: If the batteries are low or old, try replacing them with fresh AA batteries.
  • Confirm power: Ensure the controller is receiving power. You can do this by pressing a button on the controller while it's off and see if it turns on.
  • Restart the headset: Press and hold the power button on the headset until it restarts.
  • Pair and unpair the controllers
  • Make sure your headset is fully up to date

If the issue persists after taking these steps, we would love to continue the conversation via private message to see how else we can help. When this occasionally happens to me I've found that removing the controller battery, then putting it back in, seems to help.  I've also found that good quality alkaline AA batteries (like Duracell) work best.  Good room lighting without any close sunlit windows or reflective surfaces helps a lot as well.  Worst case, maybe try another factory reset.  Good luck mate and cheers.
