HDMI Link is an app that allows you to stream HDMI video sources into a Quest 2, Quest 3 or Quest Pro.
This isn't a Quest Link / Airlink style though, you won't have HDMI VR into the headset to avoid Link compression. What this does is allow you to connect your headset to a HDMI capture device and stream the video into a floating panel.
Unfortunately I can't find my USB-A to USB-C adapter to connect my Quest 3 to my Elgato HDMI capture device, so I can't test right now.
One caveat: HDCP protected video will show up as just black. So you won't be able to watch DVDs, Blurays, Netflix, Prime, etc sources. (Unless your HDMI capture device ignores HDCP)

Technically it's nothing to do with HDMI as such. It's a UVC display app. UVC is the standard used for webcams and some other USB video devices. It just happens that HDMI capture devices often use UVC.
I still can't find my adapter for my Elgato, so instead I used the Link cable to connect my Quest 3 to a Zed Mini stereo camera (which also works as a webcam). I could see a 2560x720 60Hz feed of the stereo view, although at the wrong aspect ratio (think it was stretched to 1920x1080). I guess I could use this to place a camera on the back of my head and be able to see behind myself during passthrough. 🙂
I also tried it with my Logitech Brio webcam. Audio came through, but the picture was 176x144 repeated multiple times across the top, then corrupt below.
Those are my only 2 USB-C output UVC devices. I'll try the Elgato if I can find an adapter.

Hi - Quest 3 connected up to my PS4 with a UGREEN VCC but I only see a small low res screen, occupying maybe a 6th of the display area. PS4 is outputting at 1920 x 1080 - 60 Hz according to Video Output Information. I don't seem to be able to access any settings for Meta HDMI Link. Any ideas, or could you point me in the right direction for some product support? Many thanks.

I have an old Hauppage HDPVR2 knocking around. I might pick up a HDMI to USB-C adaptor and give this a whirl.

I found the adapter. It is a simple USB-A 3 to USB-C plug. Using it meant it, then the elgato, sticking out of the side of my quest. I had to hold it to not stress the usb port (I don't want to damage it then have the melting port issue)
I connected that to my Switch via the dock's HDMI. The info panel had the right details, but the screen was black.
So for me it's zero out of three working correctly. The first (Zed Mini) was the closest, it had the image but in the wrong aspect ratio.

A quick look online, I see at least one report that Hauppage devices don't meet the UVC spec so need custom software, they don't work as a generic webcam. So it wouldn't be Quest HDMI Link compatible. But worth a shot if you have it.
Although if it did work, you wouldn't need a HDMI to USB-C adapter, the Hauppage is the adapter. It would be HDMI in to the Hauppage then USB-C out to the Quest.

I believe this should work

I managed to get this up and running last night on my Quest 3 and was genuinely impressed!
Xbox Series X > Razer Ripsaw X > A cheap USB-C to USB-A hub I had lying around. Pulled through at 1080p60, exactly as advertised.
Because I had the adapter and capture card quite literally dangling off the headset it wasn't the most comfortable setup in the world (😅) but with a longer and thinner USB adapter, I can really see it being an app I use regularly.

When can we use this app as a big tv example would be to take a cable with hdmi on one end and usb c on other end and hdmi goes into Xbox and usb c goes into Quest 2, 3, and pro models there you go easy plug n play. 🤩

Not something, like other things added that interests me. All I want is good overall standalone VR/MR and PCVR performance. Both seem to be pretty good right now but always room for improvement imho.
