To those affected by the failed software update rolled out by Meta... We had been compiling a list of people affected only for Meta to 'Spam' our thread (Unacceptable Response to Software Update Breaking Device).

If you have been affected by the software update bricking/ breaking your device and have experience Meta trying to sell you a refurbished device rather than fixing/ replacing your broken unit... Please share your experience on this thread so we can work together to get this situation rectified!

UPDATE:

If you are still having an issue, try filing a claim at this link:

Product claim eligibility | Meta Store

Make sure to use the serial number on your actual device (not the one on your Meta account/online)

Had a post on that thread originally, got a Quest 2 that went through an update straight out of the box, had it charge 100% then gray screened. I pressed the power button then it completely bricked. Gray screen turned to completely off. No LED to indicate charging, can't access the boot screen, computer doesn't see it when connected to USB. Absolutely no signs of life. Hard to imagine a way to flash a new update onto this when there's no way to communicate with it.

I am currently in the process of getting the original thread back.  I re-edited the original post- it is in review.  Hopefully they do the right thing and approve it.

I wondered why the original thread was no longer accessible.

thought Meta closed it to try and hide the evidence of their foul deeds

Same experience. Charged to green. Connected to WiFi went thru the safety acknowledgement. Asked for an update. Which we did. Went into a boot loop. Followed care instructions for factory reset. Device is now bricked. Will not respond to button commands and no light while charging. Care told me via email that buying a refurbished was my only option.  I was also part of the OG post

All the above that has been explained has happened to my son's quest 2 which was brand new. It was awful christmas day seeing him upset. I do hope this somehow gets resolved

Was on the quest 2, working fine then I go to settings and see there’s an update. Once I updated it loops a chip with green loading once done it just a black/grey screen. Tried to factory reset but nothing seems to work. Even tried to do it through the meta software tool page…

I'll post here again, just in case that the original post cannot be recovered.

I wanted to use again my Oculus Quest 2 during this Christmas, I haven't used it since +1 year ago, so I charged it and everything was working fine. Then I see a message saying I need to install the latest update so I did it. Then I got the black screen loop (black screen > disk img > Meta logo > black screen).

I was stuck there for a while, so I started to find for a solution, then I see a message from Meta support recommending to do a fabric reset using the Power button + Volumen Button, so I did it, and now my Oculus Quest 2 doesn't turn on, even when I connect it to the charger the LED doesn't work, are dead.

I contacted Meta support via email looking for a solution and nothing seems to be working (use a different charger, wait for at least 2h, press the power button for +45s...), especially because they told me to do a hard reset or try to force the update via USB, but all of the solutions implies be able at least to turn on my Oculus, which is not possible.

I hope we'll get a solution soon.
