My Quest 2 Experience

Hello, my name is Zero and I've owned a Quest 2 VR headset for quite a while now (since before facebook became meta) and my experience hasn't exactly been very pleasant. So I was wondering if I'm the only one that has had this much a a negative experience.

The quest 2 is probably the single most unreliable piece of technology I've ever owned. I have amassed around 500-ish hours in VR over very many 2-3 hour game sessions (which is about how long the battery lasts). And I think I've experienced the headset booting properly on the first attempt about five times. Just getting to the menu usually takes at least 2 restarts and connecting the headset to a pc requires at least another three if it even works at all.

The headset simply doesn't wish to connect properly to my pc (build specs will be at the bottom of the post). The Meta link cable that I bought for it never even worked and I had to buy a third party USB-A to USB-C cable to even be able to connect to the pc. Trying to run air link either doesn't connect or runs for precisely three seconds before it encounters a graphical issue and crashes. When running over the cable the crashes only occur about every 30 or so minutes (in which I will then have to restart the headset 3-4 times to get it to connect again).

When playing games on the headset itself (like rec-room) I get around 40 fps tops. Which is comical seeing how my school laptop can run the same game at around 200-300 fps. The headset suffers from frequent crashes and if I turn around too fast I'll just be looking at a black screen until the next frame. When I run on pc, performance is no issue (seeing as the computer is doing the work). I can very easily run games like H3VR up to the 120fps (120hz) framerate that the headset is supposed to be able to display, but when I try to switch this setting in the oculus app it simply doesn't work. It seems to just be stuck on the standard 72hz.

I've tried updating both the desktop app and the headset, which is a challenge in it self. The desktop app simply refuses to update so I have to uninstall it and download the newest version from the website instead. And the headset can take anywhere from 3 minutes to multiple days to update. With the record being from around 3pm on a Friday to around 3am on the following Monday (where it proceeded to wake me up with its absurdly loud boot sound).

I've also experienced multiple times that the headset appears to boot by itself, which isn't exactly a major issue had it not been for the fact that it is a giant camera array that could be used to spy on me.

It is worth to note that I've never owned any other VR headsets so I don't know if this is normal for this kind of tech, but it is still a nearly unacceptable quality level. My experience may be a one off case scenario though, so I was wondering how you guys have experienced the headset.

I was having a very frustrating pcvr experience as well. With so many different tips and tricks nothing worked. Try optimizing your pc monitor to match refresh rate on the Quest, monitor resolution that best works with your gpu, color and temperature options on my monitor are set to fps and cool temperature . Then reset your pc and load games from the pc to the vr.
