NY Times: Facebook to redesign and rebrand the Rift

Just wanted to share this quote from the New York Times article about the announcement. Interpret as you will.

"According to a person involved in the deal who was not allowed to speak publicly because he was not authorized by either company, Facebook eventually plans to redesign the Oculus hardware and rebrand it with a Facebook interface and logo."

Yeah, that's like saying your car isn't red because you re-painted it blue, it doesn't really apply does it? When I boot up my Nexus 7 the very first thing I see is the google logo...

I did say that's the only time i see the google logo

and no its like saying because you don't like anything but the engine in your car, you changed whole rest of it...

and what im saying is you'll be able to do that with the rift... I hope...

My 2 cents on the facebook acquisition is that it's good for the hardware, and very foreboding on the software side of things. Facebook has much more cash and has the potential to truly make a mind-blowing device at a reasonable cost, maybe even a step up from what people were expecting from the CK1. However it's a blessing in disguise because of all the shareholders and suits at the company who do not care about gamers and only profits.

I can easily see the Facebook Rift becoming closed-system, only allowing proprietary software (no open source, sorry indie developers)
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? A: Top-posting. Q: What is the most annoying thing on forums?

Just sounds like some shady opinion with no source.

Well, they can't name the source. There is a difference...
Not sure how news media operate in the US, but in the civilized world they usually need 2 independent sources that corroborate the story.

Well it's pretty pointless to even bring it up if you are only going to tease people about it, I can say I found a source that says OculusVR is going to take over Facebook, Google, AND Sony and it will be as credible as the one in the article. However, I wouldn't mind if it turns out to be true but the author of that article isn't helping himself with that sentence.

ALSO, who cares if the Facebook logo is on the Rift, it will most likely just be a small logo that is barely noticeable.

This should definitely be spread around so more people can see.

To that end, this is the reddit thread to upvote: http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/21fq7e/facebook_denies_nyt_claim_it_will_rebrand_oculus/

In all likelihood, they just talked about rebranding internally, and why shouldn't they? I agree that its ultimately a bad idea, but there is enough merit to warrant discussion given the absolutely universal brand awareness of FB.

The fact that this source was not allowed to talk about it means that his words do not represent company policy, and nothing has been agreed upon. Assuming any of this was ever said to begin with.
