The newest Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus, is available today alongside the Galaxy Note 7! With over 300 games and experiences on the Oculus Store, there’s something for everyone — from heart-pumping experiences like AFFECTED: The Manor, to securing a front row seat at the Rio Olympics via Oculus 360 Photos. Over one million people on the Oculus platform are introduced to new games and experiences through their Gear VR each month — and we’re adding new content weekly. Just this past week we’ve added over a dozen new Gear VR apps and experiences to the Oculus Store.

While this is good news for all Gear VR users out there, I have the feeling the market already prefers mobile VR. Rift users are getting some games and that's it. Most applications and experiences are only for Gear VR.
How many rift games are out yet? 50? How many apps that works just fine for 360° videos and photos?
Excuse my bad english. I speak to you through the google translator. 😛

Gear VR has a massive user base compared to Rift and Vive and this is down to the fact that people have more uses for their mobile phones than they do buying expensive graphics cards and CPUs for their desktops to run the Rift. Also people can easily upgrade their phones on contracts and get the Gear VR thrown in for free. Perhaps it's the high PC requirement that needs to be addressed in CV 2 so the minimum is more acceptable without losing the maximum for hardcore enthusiasts.

Up until May 2016 there were 300,000 Gear VR sales in Europe alone for 2016. That figure with freebees included and the ROTW is likely to be way past 1 million.

System Specs: MSI NVIDIA RTX 4090 , i5 13700K CPU, 32GB DDR 4 RAM, Win 11 64 Bit OS.

the market goes where the customers go. There is huge amount of gear users compare to rift, thanks to samsung esp bundling with their phones. I think that it is great for VR as it is helping spread vr to the masses which if wasnt for gear, vr would be much more niche and there would be much less development. And many like me once getting a taste of vr and craving for better will upgrade to rift so it is also helping rift market. Problem with other units are ofcourse cost, not many people can afford the rift and powerful enough pc, so imo it will be a longg time if ever before rift/vive type vr will become mainstream, mobile VR will continue to lead the charge. But im sure we will see a nice bump in users and games once touch and psvr are released. This is only the beginning.

I was going to buy the new gear vr today, but my Note 7 that arrived yesterday had over 30 dead pixels and all the samsung stores in my town (three of them) have no stock left, so I need to get samsung to ship me a replacement. 😞

This is a huge buzz kill for Rift users. I've pretty much tapped out all Rift content and have been really bummed about anything new slowing coming out, I mean slowly!

This Oculus Rift platform that was very hyped up, made me think it was the cream of the crop! I pre-purchased thinking yes! Was very excited, and still am to a point! But seems the content is moving to being more mobile. I get it! But does this mean developers will be making less and less content for the Rift?

So this new expensive toy I thought was the ultimate VR experience is going to be a Salvation Army drop off soon?

Why can't these Gear VR experiences be implemented for the Rift also. Since Gear VR is powered by Oculus, why is this not happening?

If this trend continues, Oculus may just as well drop the Rift for further development and concentrate on Gear VR.

Obviously I am very troubled by this. Like I said before, I need more content for my Rift. After reading this, I am now wondering if my purchase of the Rift, was even worth all the hype?

As I sit here and look at my Rift laying on my desk.

Whoa, whoa whoa!

There were well over 500 experiences to try out by the time i got rid of my DK2 - from short demos to full games.  The Rift has only been on sale "properly" (where you can have it within a week) for a month.

You can look through this forum or take my word for this but i got the DK2 in the first batch and for the first month many of us were on here desperate for more content - there just wasn't any.

Give it time!

By the way, i want one, a lot!

Maybe I'm a little bit anxious, but I think the timing for all this new Gear VR content hitting even before the Touch controllers are released. Well, makes me more anxious.

I love my Rift and it has a lot of cool games this early on. But I do love the experiences as well. We need more "Entertainment" content. App updates.... and definitely some new Jaunt material!

More coaster videos' would be cool, but the ones out now, the video is grainy at best. Let's record some Hi Def Roller Coaster rides!

How about more sporting events? Helicopter rides over more cool cities! Maybe some Haunted Houses for October! How about ski jumps. I mean I could go on and on!

I've even wanted to record my own VR vids. but looking at 360 cams, the good ones would be like buying 10 Rifts!

Guess I will need more patience.  I will get my temporary fix when the Touch Controllers finally reach my hands!
