New Oculus Logo & Livestream

Anyone else not impressed with the new Oculus logo? I feel like they got trolled hard by a bad focus group. I mean... Really this is what they want to build the brand on?? It's not even a logo it's just a shape...

But I am looking forward to the Oculus Livestream on Thursday!

Here's another example of one of Oracle's logos.

Not 100% identical with the new Oculus logo. But the only difference is color and that the Oculus logo is a bit more bold. That logo was not a smart move. Next sue is coming.

Oracle do love a good courtcase. Oracle vs Facebook. sweet.

Old logo was better. At least it was free lol. And it wasn't all that complicated if you ask me.

Considering that the old eye logo (not considering the blue color) was kinda sorta borrowed from the US DOT (and also a symbol in some fonts), it would be poor form for other companies that also borrowed it to sue Oculus.

I think it was the nasty letter from CBS legal that focused the change!

The eye icon is one of the oldest known in all recorded history. In that historical context, ANY lawsuit over its use just sounds silly.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

I know @vizionvr that discussions on "similarities" concerning logos can seem "silly"! But this is a difficult and highly complicated aspect of legal representation law, and can not be treated lightly. Sadly it was the original naive and lackadaisical approach by the fledgling start-up OVR that placed them into difficulty - and eventually led to the forced change of logo this month!

Just for the record, the "Blue-Eye" logo fell foul of a number of copyrighted/branded issues ranging over a number of infringements of other brands. These were mainly schoolboy errors of registration and creation, and I had heard from one source that the original logo had been a "place holder" that fell into being official by error back in the day!

No matter the excuse - once funded and part of a billion dollar corporation, OVR has had to clear up a number of outstanding issues and resolve them to be able to effectively move forward - the "logo" was one issue, now the other possible legal issues need to addressed.

[Note - I hope that the OVR management have been professional and done the due diligence with their new logo, as already there are questions from specialists in the representation law of logos that their new approach could infringe the Oracle (Virtual Desktop) logo!! (See Above)]

I'm not so sure that is anything except the first letter of their full logo, which can be found by googling "Oracle logo" or going to http://www.oracle.com. Now, it is found in the address bar, but it does only seem to be part of their logo, and doesn't seem to be found used anywhere else except as a thumbnail. Just sayin'.

What will they do when it's the time to abandon this shape and focus on the new technology, which probably will be in form of flexible display/-s covering 180°+ FOV?

Meanwhile I have no opinion. I don't like it but I can understand why they choose the shape.
I think they could do better, but then again, I mostly hate every logo done by today's trends and fashion.
Rare (Rareware Inc.) or logo some wiseguys created for our country for millions. The thing that connects all that crap I see in recent years is bound two factors: 1) looks like a work of 10 year old, and 2) costs way too much and still looks bad.
Not an Oculus hater, but not a fan anymore. Still lots of respect for the team-Carmack, Abrash. Oculus is driven by big corporation principles now. That brings painful effects already, more to come in the future. This is not the Oculus I once cheered for.

It does not look much like the circular CBS logo to me. Too many folks wanting a piece of the big bucks without earning their own, IMHO.

Looks like there will not be any question/answer in the chat, just basic moderation.

I have that problem in many social media sites too. I usually go with "TheRealGeekmaster", or geekmaster69, in such cases. When folks ALSO steal my avatar image, it causes gerat confusion, especially when they post provocative stuff.

I have managed to reclaim geekmaster in some places when the account had been dormant for a year or more. You may want to try that yourself.

I have mixed feelings on the new logo. I read the reddit posts about the logic behind it and the thought that went into it, but I cannot help but think that it looks like a big zero that tipped over. It triggers existing memes at a very low level, and to me (and probably many others), how can we NOT see a big zero that tipped over? I think adding a nose relief at the bottom, like the foam insert in a DK1 (except an upward swoop instead of a cutout), would make a HUGE difference in perceptual emotional cueing for the new logo. For example, I think a shape similar to the black frame on these goggles (image embedded below) would be an excellent modification to the new logo, fitting it's purpose and emotional response much better:

But that is just my perception. Other opinions?
