New rift issues, not sure where to start.

Sorry if this is dumb, but I have to ask.  I got my CV1 a couple or three weeks ago, and, believe it or not, have only today got around to actually taking it out of the box.
My main reasons for getting it is ED and FSX/P3D/Xplane (to be used with "fly inside" 3rd party app).  MY Pc runs Win 10 x64 bit. I have X52, and a GTX970 G1 Gamer GPU. (saving for a 1070). My rig has an Asus Z87K mobo, an i7 4770 @4.4Ghz CPU, and 16Gb Ram.  C: is SSD, as are the data drives.  Display wise, I use Triple head 2 go with 3x 32" Samsung Monitors.  All drivers are current.
Iv had a couple of instances today when the rift has gone dark on me with an accompanying "bingbong" disconnect sound. This is followed very quickly by a reconnect sound When I take it off, the mirrored display is ok on the monitor, and seems to be working as it should, but the rift remains dark.
I wondered if it makes a lot of difference whats running in the background.  Other than the usual security stuff, I dont go in for lots of system tray apps.
So, I guess what I'm asking is:
how much of a difference does that stuff make?
What is the likely cause of the disconnect?
Does it matter what monitors I am running concurrently with Rift?
Any hints or tips to better the experience?.
If background process matter that much, Is there a prog that can be run to minimise background processes etc prior to running Rift/Steam.
Even with this going on, Im delighted with the Rift, and am so pleased that ED plays as well as I had hoped.(notwithstanding these other issues)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'd suggest you open a support ticket. If the disconnect is accompanied by a "Please reconnect your Rift's HDMI" message - it seems to be a common problem and there are a few threads about it here. I had the problem myself and ultimately had to have it replaced.

Only time I've experienced issues like this is when the HDMI cable (the end plugged directly into the headset) was not fully plugged in. Try taking off the facial, pull out the cord and try plugging it in firmly. Though I'm a little confused if your asking if it's normal for the headset to go dark after taking it off then yes it is, though typically I don't hear any noises.

I think most people don't know how to safely take off the facial part. I don't. And Oculus officially says the lead end is not removable. It's troubling.

I had a HDMI disconnect half hour ago. Hoping it doesn't rear it's ugly face again.

Laugh it up noo...I mean Zedbane. Dang I shoulda bought a prebuilt, right?  I guarantee the HDMI disconnect has nothing to do with my system so I'm not sure what you find amusing.

You pull on the top.

Installation is reverse of removal.

If that takes you more than about 30 seconds of investigation to figure out I think maybe you should ask your caregiver at the home for help.  😄

No need to be like that. My point is you have to dig for this info, it's not in a manual that comes with the Rift and Oculus officially doesnt support you doing it. I didn't say I'm not capable of absorbing info.

One common cause for disconnects are the usb ports. They could be overloaded power wise by other peripherals, the drivers could be old or otherwise not wantunf to play nice with rift.
I still get bingbongs with all my ports now and then even with most other thing unplugged. Mostly works though so can't be arsed to chase it down.

Well I was really nervous when first taking it off I even created a video after I figured it out, you have to hold the nose part while pulling on the top piece here. https://youtu.be/TfTOLf5aAl0

Thanks for the suggestions and help.  I bought a new card with the "correct" chipset for USB3, as suggested by Oculus, so I know its not that.  Maybe an hour or so checking drivers, cables etc would be time well spent.  I guess its the joys of early adoption.  😉

Don't think there's any need to hold the nose part.  Just pull on the top bit and it all comes right off, it's meant to be removable and removes easily.
