I haven't played with my Rift yet today, but just saw this article!

https://uploadvr.com/rift-s-controller-tracking-update/amp/

Anyone notice an improvement? They say it's almost night and day!

I just got Oculus update, but it says version 1.38 in "whats new". Is that where to check version number? Im too hangover to try VR in early morning, so i cant test it myself.

Go to the General tab of Oculus desktop settings menu, scroll to bottom to see your version number.
1.39 is in Public Test Channel only currently, you can participate in it's testing by signing up for the Public Test Channel in the Beta tab of same settings menu.
Best done when not hungover...
😉

Thank you very much.

I got now version 1.39xxxxx. I tried Close hmd tracking with Zero Caliber and difference is huge. I could touch my headset with controller and it still tracked.

You are welcome - yeah big difference with controller tracking in 1.39.

Try holding the controller up to your face and don't move it for a while, see if it still tracks, playing onward tonight, and I found tracking wasn't much better at all if you try to use a sniper fifle or any rifle drawn up looking down the sights, hand nearest HMD will freeze after a short time.

It's the first step (of many) tracking improvements.  It's still a pretty impressive update

I tried to recreate that problem in Oculus home, but i couldnt get tracking failing even as close as possible to headset while keeping hands still for about half a minute. It is possible that it is a problem in game more than in headset itself.

Make sure you opt into the Beta software guys, you have to install 1.39 update in beta settings on Oculus software.

I have been playing Onward for over 3 hours today and as far as I'm concerned this is fixed now for FPS two handed rifles and aiming down sites. It was 100% playable for me, before this update is was 100% not playable.

I'm very happy with my Rift S now!  🙂

One negative though - Archery games like In Death still have issues for me, Archery appears not to be fixed. But at least now we can play Onward/Pavlov/Contractors/Zero Calibre etc.

What about the white flashes?

Static flashes still occur.

The new (beta) update fixed almost all issues with tracking for me. Iron sights on weapons in Zero Caliber and H3 are nearly perfect usable. For me it's now better than my 3-sensor CV 1 setup, because it works in any direction without any issues. This is a huge step forward in tracking for me.

Played Zero Caliber a couple of hours yesterday and it was perfectly playable.

The update IMPROVES the tracking.....not fixes it.

Some people said the tracking was fine on Rift S before this fix and that you just had to adapt to inside out tracking.
Some people kept insisting on integrating CV1 sensor compat, while others were saying they'd be far better off fixing the inside-out instead. I'm glad they solved it for the most part (I would say a 'dramatic improvement' could be considered solved) instead of caving to the CV1 sensor plea.

Before the update it was almost impossible to aim with rifles through sights. Now i have absolutely no problems so far with it anymore. So i would say it FIXED the issues with rifle aiming for me. 😉
