Nvidia's 30 series cards

I just saw some article saying that Nvidia is about to release it's 3080 and 3080ti cards.  I was about to buy the RTX 2070 super, now I'm not sure.  Normally I'd wait and see if the 2070 super drops, but if I use the 1080ti as an indicator, that RTX 2070 super is about to skyrocket in price, not reduce like everything else in the history of ever USED to do.  These people that write about the 30 series cards say that Nvidia is discontinuing the 20x series cards (I just want to get one for cheaper than retail if a new model is out), they also said that the big cards, 3080 and 3080ti are being released first then the 3070 will be shortly after, hopefully in november.  They also say Nvidia hasn't released the prices, but they are suspecting that Nvidia will lower prices because the RTX cards were too expensive.  They're making claims like they believe the 3070 or 3080 is likely to be around $500.

I find this hard to believe, does AMD have reasonable competition at a good price point?  How do they come to this conclusion when the company hasn't released price info.  I would expect the new cards to be in the ripoff price range they are now, $1,200+ for those 3080ti's, maybe $1,000 for the 3080.  I don't know what to expect of the 3070, maybe in the $500 to $700 range.

Would you wait for the 30 series cards to come out?  Do you think the 2070 super will drop in price?  Or do you think it will skyrocket like the 1080ti did (It's still a ripoff to this day).  Do you think the performance difference will be so much that it would be regretful to get the 2070 super?  I intend to play DCS World on the HP Reverb G2.

These GPU prices are why PCVR will forever be a niche market.

The Geforce 3080 card are RTX, so why would they lower the price? I expect the Geforce 3080ti to cost £1000 and the Geforce 3080 to cost £800. I reckon the 20 series will also drop in price.

Might help if you give use a link to were you read about all this.

It has been revealed that the RTX2070 Super is being discontinued, so I'd wait for the 3000 announcement next month rather than buying anything right now. The plan is to sell off the existing 2000 stock before rolling out the new models, so there won't be any price drop on the older cards.

There were rumours last year that the 3000's would start at lower price points than the 2000's (which were historically high compared to previous generations), but we likely won't know whether there is any truth to that until the official reveal.

Nvidia will be using the Samsung 7nm process which apparently is less costly, plus AMD are more competitive than they were so I'm hoping for a bit of a reduction in cost.

The jump in performance isn't as big as some were forecasting, I think 20% increase is the latest rumour over the 20 series but there may be some games being played with the naming. There could be a 3090 card which could just mean that they could have called that a 3080 and have a 30% increase... but calling it a 3090 allows them to charge the same as the 2080 and seem better value.

I was thinking I'll wait for the 30's now.  The article said it had a 30% increase over 2080.  Sorry Red, the article was on Facebook, once I closed it, it got lost in the abyss that is facebook.  I should have bookmarked it.  If I find another article, I'll link it.
