This will be great news for VR depending on cost, but will also reduce the price of Maxwell cards like the TITAN-X.

I understand the thief in the shadows crescent bay demo from weta runs on a TITAN-X.

Will we need new motherboards for Pascals NVLink?

If I understand correctly, at first NVLink will be available for servers only. For gamers it will be PCI-E v 4.0

It will probably not be 10 times as fast when it comes to gaming. The performance boost was regarding neural networks or something. The topic title is a bit misleading.

It's always the way... new graphics cards come out, the price of old ones drops.

It's how people end up with SLI configs over time.... Myself included... currently running a single GTX980 but plan to buy a second one in 2016 at about half the price the one I have cost me....

I think this is a good strategy as CV1 has been confirmed as having two screens... So by all intense and purposes SLI for VR should be pretty good if they can configure each card to render the Left and Right Channels.

Pascal is not for a consumer base currently, it is more designed for neural networks and autonomous driving. However, it is my firm belief that in 3 generations, low end consumer graphics card architecture will be faster than the Pascal architecture 😛

Looking at the stuff being worked on in UE4, it would be prudent to to invest in a GTX980 SLI solution. That is if visual fidelity and stable frame rate is what you are looking for...

That's not to say that CV one won't work fine with a single GTX980... i'm sure it will... but if you want to turn up those graphics settings to include shadows and super sampling then the more power you have in the GPU department the better,

Not too mention that with the latest VXGI testing that is being done, normal FPS on a single 780 is about 10-15 FPS. Granted this is for archviz stuff, so things aren't exactly optimized.. but I can only expect to see normal VXGI to be around 30fps normally.

Has the time for quad-SLI finally arrived?
