I wonder what they are going to do later though - all this research into HD3 now? Half of what was shown off for that seems really on the cutting edge and no where in sight any time soon. Looks like Rift S 2 will be the future headset instead of a CV2.

Rift-S was just supposed to be an interim headset, so I don't see a v2 in the plans. With that said though, there's nothing saying they don't have yet another headset in the works, and Half Dome is more of a CV3(?).

Now that raises red flags for me.

Yep...considering the cable that came with the Quest is weak enough that a bend near the plug while plugged in caused mine not to transfer data anymore. As soon as I heard it was thin, I imagined people stepping on it.

Sure - but between that thing and what they can do now - for that price point - it doesn't really leave much room for much more - other than a Rift S 2 with slightly more res and a few extra cameras until that monster of a headset comes out LOL. But all I can say is WOW on HD 3 :O! that thing is amazing af.

I think the next headset will be a merge of Rift and Quest. Facebook recently patented a version of Quest with the compute moved from the headset to the carry case—it would stream wirelessly from the case, and charge in the case. At that point, it could also connect wirelessly to a PC, and there ceases to be a differentiation between PC and mobile.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

I think Carmack mentioned in that Joe Rogan interview, that they had initially considered a separate dedicated console for the Rift, so a pc/case wouldn't be that far off. If it was small enough to wear in a backpack, even better...take it outside still.

Yeah I do also, I think the Rift line is pretty much done, and it will all be a form of a Quest type device going forward.
At least that is how it is sounding to me.

Also all this talk about Rift S not getting hands tracking and bla bla bla - stop that. Yes they said Quest is getting it - but doesn't mean Rift S isn't getting either. It'll come - and work just as good if not better.

Looks like I guess right about the Quest getting a Link cable:) I guess now that Quest can do some what a Rift S can do if not better - what does that mean for Rift S though as a product? That seems a bit overlapping - does that mean Rift S 2 will have a slightly higher graphic budget in the future for a bit more leap in hardware?

The Half Dome final version (we'll probably see another few iterations of it during the next few OCs) will be the CV2 released in 2022. Remember, the Snowdog predicted this ages ago and is right 99% of the time.

I'm hoping that Oculus will give the CV2 the same headstrap as the Rift S because I can't live without it now. That's why I'm still happy that I've got my Rift S instead of getting a Quest and a cable. The headstrap is awesome - not only is it more comfortable but there's also plenty of room for glasses which saves me from buying prescription lenses every year. B)

No you are projecting, there was no attempt to derail this thread on my part.

Nope, I'm not projecting at all. You made a post where all you said is that you're "tuning out." That serves no constructive purpose and it definitely seemed to derail the topic for those that are tuning in.

If we think about this logically, if you are tuning out of OC6 Announcements, then you should also tune out of an OC6 Announcements thread. Otherwise... you're not actually tuning out.

I am sure a moderator will let me know if it was not.

Agreed. But since you decided to share your "tuning out" thoughts in this thread, I then decided to give my thoughts on it. So here we are, still talking about something that's a complete derail. lol

How could you come to that conclusion if you "tuned out" of OC6?? 😉

There's literally zero evidence to support this. And more evidence to support the opposite. This is just an overreaction to the fact that Quest is currently in the spotlight.

Completely agree. Abrash has been saying as much for some time now. We know that this is all going to converge in to one headset and/or pair of glasses that is purely Mixed Reality.

Really? Now we're getting arguments because one person simply said they tuned out part way through?

I was tuning out in the middle there too around 4am.
