an option for owners to unlink from Facebook is revealed by a young user - while the Jailbroken Quest 2 never materialize under a cloud of suspicion - an alternative approach has been fielded.

Might not be all roses and violets though, lol:

"There is a downside to ditching Facebook altogether from the headset. There are several features you simply won't be able to use, like:

  • Oculus Store
  • Oculus Browser
  • Oculus TV
  • Casting
  • Certain apps that were downloaded through the Oculus Store because of entitlement issues
  • All of Facebook's social media features"

There is a nice article about Oculess here:

I have the Index for Steam, and the Rift CV1 for the Oculus Store - works perfectly that way. Losing the ability to use the Oculus Store would be a no-go for me. Not being able to buy Lone Echo 2 - kinda the biggest catastrophe I can imagine 😉

You can still revive it much like they do now with Virtual Desktop.

One dude wrote on the Index Subreddit that in order for Revive to work, new users need to install the Oculus desktop app and use a Facebook account to log in (also to buy apps in the Oculus Store) - thus implying new users need a Facebook account to get Revive working. I have not tested that.

I was aware of this and thought happy days,  but very annoyingly Virtual Deskop doesn't work....if only the full version was on sidequest.  There is also another way to use it with an Oculus account,  but as ultimately that will be switched off in 2023, not a long term solution.  One thought that has crossed my mind is that Oculus for Business...I think....uses Oculus accounts so are they actually going to kill that infrastructure completely.....

Oculus for Business uses Workplace accounts. You get one Essential Plus Workplace account (an admin account) with the headset. You can then use Oculus Device Manager to add and remove users yourself. It's not a regular Oculus account.

(Side note: Oculus for Business doesn't have access to the Oculus Store and Link still requires a Facebook account on the PC, it doesn't use the headset Business account).
