Oculus Link is the biggest piece of garbage I have ever tried to use

How is a multi-billion dollar company neglecting this issue so hard, that so many people are facing? This issue has persisted for me on different computers, and different headsets. I have gone through all of the steps with support, and the band-aid fix that let me play for a single session by opting in PTC (why doesn't link work in your actually released builds lmao) is ruined by the newest update. This headset and its software wants to be locked like the iPhone eco-system, yet has no connectivity like it's supposed to. PSA to anyone who wants to use a VR headset to run PC games or programs, never buy from Meta.

I'd be curious to know more about the issue you're having. I've been quite successful using my Quest 2 for PCVR. Both with Oculus PCR and SteamVR.

When using Link, I move my Laptop (running Alienware for PCVR) in to the room right next to the Wifi Router. I connect an Ethernet cable from the router to my PC. and I using my Quest 2 in the same room. No problems with PCVR at that point.

It sounds like you’re talking about air link. I’m talking about the rift cable link.

Hey there, @ep_sode. I know how important it is to get your Rift cable working so you can get back to enjoying VR. Based on what you've said, the best option would be to try and replace your Rift Cable. You may need to look into third-party cables to see if they are compatible with your headset.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The force shall free me.

OK, while I also normally use Air Link I switched of to my usb3 Link cable (Kuject powered Link cable I bought from Amazon +1.5 years ago for my Q2) and all worked very well with both my Q2 and QPro at 650mbps bitrate.  I tried a number of Rift and Steam games and these all worked great.  Also tried the flight sim msfs and this also worked great.  I actually forgot how distant objects look quite a bit better with Link.

I am on PTC V57 on both headsets (version # 57.0.0.236.669) and on the oculus desktop app public beta (version # 57.0.0.238.153).  Maybe check both those version numbers and see if they are the same as your final V57.  You may want to opt into the oculus desktop app public beta and give that a go (settings/beta tab).  BTW, I've been on the PTC's on both headsets and the oculus desktop app since V51 and haven't had any problems.

While I can't say for sure if non-beta versions work or not, I'd be kinda surprised if they didn't.  Maybe someone with v57 final issues tries just opting into the oculus desktop app public beta they can report if this fixes things with Link or not.  If not, then they should file a bug report and also lodge a support ticket including their log files so Meta support can identify and fix this.  Simply ranting about it without suppling details isn't very useful imho.

My cables themselves are not an issue. I bought the rift cable in the first place because just maybe, the official version is what was required. I have tried both the rift cable and two third party ones, as well as a short USB3 one. They all charge the headset, and the Oculus is even detected in my device information, just not by the desktop app.

Well, I don't mean to belittle you, but this is working fine with my pretty standard usb3 Link cable.  Not sure why you're having a problem.  Could be caused by lots of things I guess, including windows updates (I'm on win11 btw), gpu drivers (I'm on nvidia 537.13 latest one and use DDU in safe mode to properly uninstall the previous driver), and SteamVR (I'm on latest 1.27 beta).  Again, the best thing might be to check that all these things are properly updated.  Otherwise, like I already said, start a support ticket including your log files.  That way at least Meta may be able to identify the cause of your problem.

There is nothing wrong with my system, drivers, ports, or cables. I’ve had this happen on a relative’s computer (VR compatible) with a different headset. Any time I’ve been able to get a band-aid fix for this issue, it’s always been due to a problem with the Oculus software, which I have fully reinstalled, and deleted all files for time and time again. I am still on an email ticket about this, that’s why this is less of me giving details for help and more of a rant. If a software takes this much troubleshooting to get working, then it has an issue.

And yet, users like myself are not having issues so go figure, lol!  Sorry I can't be of more help so I'll unsubscribe from your Rant thread.  Good luck mate and cheers.
