Is it right that the Quest will get SD835?

Sorry to say yes - but leaves room for a Quest+ with the SD855 next year?

Oh gawd Quest+. Another + (re: Pimax 5K+)  dang consumer electronics. We need modular designs now so that these upgrades can be done by the end user. I mean remember these.

System Specs: MSI NVIDIA RTX 4090 , i5 13700K CPU, 32GB DDR 4 RAM, Win 11 64 Bit OS.

Worth.

And yea, 835 is disappointing to me. It's what I already have in my Note 8 with a Gear VR someone gave me. I hoped there would be at least an upgrade option for a premium version with 845.

Yup same note 8 same gear vr and an 855 as Kev said in another post would be worth waiting for with Quest.

855 would be nice. I get it's new tech and they're trying to stay as accessible to people but I mean, there's a lot of us out there who spend 1k on smartphones lol. I'd drop some cash for a stronger chip for sure.

In one way I am not in favor of modular designs as they usually cause confusion and other problems for the end customer. One key problem is usually a customer just does not understand why they would need a CPU/GPU chip. I actually wouldn't be against the idea, but early days VR really should not be doing this just yet.

If they do - it would be nice for us that understand later on to upgrade without having to buy a whole new unit. This could lower the cost of the shell if it breaks and offer that upgrade path too in between release cycles. The CPU/GPU itself will be in high demand for low cost products so the highest I see these chips going would be sub $150< Not bad for increasing both performance by 30%. Cheaper than what it cost in PC land:) They can always keep the supply low too by simply using the next upgrade card for their new shell design.

The only hard part is I would say is trying to make them backwards compatible for SQ2 and SQ3 for example by adding or doubling the input bins so later on you can make use of them as shell changes add and takeaway input designs. Not saying making them backwards compatible for 2 generations back (have some sort of cut off point) but if there isn't much design changes over time from a input standpoint - then that does leave the door open for this no problem.
