Lol... So to counter the rumors that the Rift itself would be $1500, he knowingly put out a false statement that it would be closer to the $350 ballpark figure...

Well considering that the Rift costs roughly $1000 USD for every other country besides the US, the actually price point is closer to the $1500 USD figure. Thats not even factoring additional harware requirements in. For a PC with recommended specs plus the Rift your actually looking at about $2500 USD.

And if you want to play in a decent apartment you could easily look at over 100k! All that for a gaming device?

Seriously now, the rift is bundled with 2 full games, high-end headphones and a controller. It still costs less than a decent monitor let alone flat screen tv`s.

What do you guys want?

I want people to act with integrity and honesty. Right now Palmer/Oculus is guilty of some pretty shameful and shady business practices. He knew that it would be around $600 last fall but told people it would ballpark around $350 anyway??

If he just came out and said it would be $600 last fall I bet nobody would be pissed off or even surprised, but all he did was create a false expectation and a lot of pissed off people...

Pissing off an internet crowd is hardly difficult these days.

I guess for a lot of people it's not really about the price - more about false expectations.

It's like taking your car to a mechanic. The mechanic says: "It'll be ready tomorrow and it'll cost you 200 bucks." You come back one week later and have to pay 800.

Yes, you still pay what you have to - with a bitter aftertaste.

Heck, if back then he would have said something like "The price for the final version will be in the 800-900$-ballpark" then he would have been yesterdays hero - unfortunately it is the other way around.

Personally I'm only dissapointed in two things:
- Him making the initial 350$-statement even though he knew at the time it would be impossible.
- Not comming clean on the price at a later date and waiting until the last minute.

Finally people are realizing that Oculus and Palmer are not God!

That does not compare at all. In this case you do NOT have to pay for the Rift or argue the price to get service for your needed car.

You are just let down and think you have the right to say you somehow got screwed over. People feel so entitled these days.

I on the other hand am happy they raised the bar and made it more expensive with better parts.

I wouldn't call them decent headphones, I'd rather use my custom cabridge audio DAC with modified internals and my VModa headphones with modified drivers that are so comfortable I it feels like I have a warm fanny on each ear.

I don't need the Rift's shitty internal budget DAC,and the bundled 'headphones' look terrible, and I bet they will sound terrible too looking at the design, they aren't even full ear designs to snug up to your head, block out sound or to have a decent seal to provide nice deep tones. The model Luckey compared them to is a $60 set realistically, and they will be no where near as good because of the said design even if they have the same drivers (which are still cheap).

I'm already happy with my existing Xbox controllers, I have four in the house, don't need another but meh.

Anyway, I'm over the price too now, I was just pissed at lack of support re the order issues. I mean the wife paid 680 for a shitty spec'd iphone 6s at an apple store the other day, to me that was an utter waste of money and I'd much rather have my one year old plus one which for less than half the price kills the iphone but hey ho!

If you check his ama on reddit he meant more along the lines that people were thinking it was going to be $1000 and that it was more in the ballpark of the original thought it would be near dk2 pricing for 350. Not the best articulated saying but I can understand it. I freeze up in public speaking all the time and phrase things oddly. I can't imagine what a public figure like palmer goes through.

This, they just need to offer the rift without all the extra bundled junk.
