Yep, that's what I've been saying since he posted this video back in 2013:

Holy shit! When he looked down at his hands, it looked exactly how I imagine a 90s director might portray VR. Like real life, but with cheesy digital effects overlaid.

Well, thats fore sur a jump i wasn't expecting before 10 years.....

I'm now dreaming of this system with a last kinect version , with everything calibrated on a ODT.
Then the final technology left would be "touch" feeling.

Very cool, but is the kinect really the best camera out there for gathering this sort of 3D data? It's just so messy and distorted. Would love to see this with something that could gather a cleaner scan.

Kinect 2 has a better camera. What you see in these videos is captured with Kinect 1, which uses pattern-distortion to calculate depth. Kinect 2 uses time-of-flight, and has much higher resolution. I'd say time-of-flight is one of, if not the best, technology for real-time 3D capture.

I see, I figured if you were going to go through the trouble of doing all this you would use the best technology that was reasonably available to you. Well, I'd like to see this done with the Kinect 2 then. Not that this isn't interesting, but I don't see a lot of people wanting to use this sort of setup due to the high level of distortion.

The problem he has is "merging" the information from the differents kinects".

for a perfect matching, the kinet have to be perfectly positionned and oriented.

this is an astounding early breakthrough

early days but amazing and highly promising
I preordered a DK2 in April, from Australia.. ..and Im still completely sane!! ;P
