Oculus Setup - Repair Option

FML. Hopefully my mishap will save others some trouble.

To anyone thinking of clicking the "Repair" option under the Oculus Home setup program, don't. It will not only remove any runtime files but will also delete all of the installed games as well (does not give you any indication of doing such). If you create an issue (such as installing VorpX and getting the wrong runtime installed), don't trust the Oculus installer to fix the problem for you. Do it manually.

Cheers

Mid 2022 checking in. Just over 2yrs since the previous post and the "repair" button continues to permanently delete all desktop client files and installed games without ANY manner of notice, warning, confirmation, alert, or apparent logging.

It's honestly almost impressive that it doesn't even hint at what it's doing, or even what it did after wiping your main install directory. I remembered about this garbage about 20sec too late, when I saw it start downloading 5GB, so I hit cancel and it had already wiped C:\Program Files\Oculus.

Amazing the client still features this borderline malicious almost 7yrs later. Unless Metaface has a full re-write of the client already coming down the pipeline, they should really fix this. I could see it being enough of a turn-off for customers that they'd just throw in the towel, sell their Quest and transition to Steam/Index/Vive. If I'd wiped hundreds of GB of games I'd be livid.

Fortunately I also had most of my games symlinked, but the fact that the desktop client "features" a button that says "Repair" but silently nukes your entire install directory, games and all, is unacceptable.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to chime in on this thread to provide the info I have regarding repairing the PC app.

From what I understand about the repair option, is that it is automated to essentially compare the files that are currently on your computer to those that should be on your computer based on what is included in the download for the PC app. The repair will make sure the files needed are there, and the ones that aren't needed are removed. I know this can be unexpected, but it is the best self-serve option for a quick fix to your PC app.

If you all ever have any concerns before doing this, or have any issues afterwards, I would highly recommend submitting a support ticket so that the support team can take a look into your logs and setup to determine the best fix for you!

Make sure you smash that Kudos button!
